Brussels back to Blighty cost a fortune as hired a moving company on the cheap but the truck was too small (they already had it half full with another move) so only took our large items.

I complained and got an Amazon gift voucher <laugh>

Hired a transit and had to do 6 cross channel trips - 3 each way to bring the rest over.

Some 2022 prices:
£1800 for a 2-day move, 200+ miles, from a 3-bed house into storage (3 movers + HGV)
£350 for about 5 hours of work getting stuff from storage to the new house (2 movers + van)

Anyone used a removal company to move house recently?

I've just got a quote to move the stuff from my 2-bed flat to a house I'm buying 15 miles down the road....£1,174! Seems steep - I'd spoke to people who'd moved house in the past 1-2 years and they paid around £800 for small distance moves and that was moving from a house (rather than a flat).
It's unfortunately one of these services where you kinda have to pay for quality, otherwise you get dodgy people and broken stuff. Does seem steep that though.

For that price I'd expect them to pack/unpack your stuff. We splurged for that once and it was bliss

Had a wander around Newcastle last night for a bit with miniOT after dinner and took her to the stadium. She wasn't impressed and said she prefers the Crystal Palace stadium.

Took some deep breaths to avoid murdering her.

Now in Sunderland...

Is the glass museum still closed? I know there's a cinema now (after years of having to travel to Boldon for one(

Checked the weather and not sure alfresco quaffing is on the cards <laugh>
Bring your Berghaus and sit in a bus stop
In case I meet locals, what's the de riguere for a man near his 50s. Am I currently f***ing my sister or my mum or are they still the same person?

Don't want to make a faux pas.

Bringing MiniOT to Newcastle on Thursday for her interview in Sunderland on the Friday.

I'm quite excited to be back in Newcastle as it's been well over a decade. Not so much Sunderland where I have to kill 3 hours though.

Is there anywhere decent in Sunderland centre to get a beer or two and read a book to kill time?

Had my graduation ceremony yesterday morning. It was alright, had to get up earlier than if I had to go to work and spent hours walking around and queueing for various things. All for a handshake and walk down an aisle. Also a day behind with work so need to spend my day today planning lessons for next week.

I've set a challenge for the family tomorrow.

About 6 months ago I bought a lockable box to hold all the window keys, garage keys etc for the house and then put it somewhere.

Now I can't find it 😭

I had spent a few hours looking for a red lock box but no luck.

Looked on Amazon purchase history and discovered I bought a black coloured one.

Landlady has a house inspection next week so have to find them as pretty sure she'd like to walk out the patio doors as she usually does.
Write it down on a white envelope with a red seal and wear a cheap suit. It's a fun game of taskmaster
I might write to Alex Horne <laugh>

So I've recently had to go back to my old job as it pays better than the one I left it for, cos money is tight. Got a bit of a conundrum between cash and fun, do I;

Work (all week then) Saturday day for extra overtime cash and go out on Sunday with pals
Work (Mon-Thu then) Fri/sat/sun night overtime for sickening amounts of money

Or sack it off and go for a cheap surfing holiday to gran Canaria

On an Xmas jolly at the companies expense. Got up here last night and met up with colleagues about 9pm. Drank until 1am and woke up at 6am a bit tired but not too hungover.

Went into the office and was given a glass of champagne at 9am, had a meeting that involved a beer at 10am. Been in the pub since 12 and now feel shattered.

Lunch drinking used to kill me but this morning drinking malarkey is something else entirely.

I just want to go for a really good nap rather than crack on.

Damn this getting old stuff!
