If I won a few million on the lottery I'd instantly jack work in. Even on £1.5-£2m I could live completely normally and not have to work.

I'd open up my own craft beer and whisky shop to occupy me <awe>
I'm the same. I'd just need enough money to travel and my lifestyle wouldn't change all that much. I'd still be basically the same fat, lazy walrus that I am, I just wouldn't have to waste 45hrs a week going to work. I don't have expensive tastes so I wouldn't be blowing £20k on a watch or anything <laugh>.
<laugh>

That's it, as long as you live normally that's more than enough to retire on even if you're only in your 30s.

If I earned 30k per year for the next 35 years that'd be just over £1,000,000, so living off £1.5-£2m would be easy.

Even better, if you had £2mil, you could buy a £500,000 house outright, invest the £1.5mil and even if you only make 3% interest you're looking at £45k a year without even dipping into the lump sum and with no mortgage.

That would suit me down to the ground.

I have won £60 on scratchcards in the last few weeks so maybe my luck is turning...

I like the idea of a boutique liquor store. Maybe we could go trans Atlantic BB. Assuming we both win the lottery simultaneously.

I'd buy a fairly simple ramshackle house to do up in rural France, change my name to Arnaud Pamplemousse and make bizarre cheeses.

Let's face it, 1% would keep you ticking over nicely anyway!

Spend it on property. A 6% yield is pretty easy to achieve with a little common sense.

It's fairly conservative in the long run given historical averages. I'm not talking about sticking it in a current account, but investing it in diverse, low risk areas.

Doesn't say what his objection was, but I'm struggling to think of any good reason as to why he would object. Other than he may be a massive perv.

It's not actually that bad when you read into it. He basically sits and blocks anything that hasn't been properly debated and scrutinised.

What does the news back home have to say about the southern border issues in the US? Is any one really talking about it?

Nah, the cricket is on, England just won a world cup game and Murray is making his return from injury. No room for any news.

A few journalistic commentaries on separating children from their families but not that much.

The impending trade tariff war is the main US news this week.

My building manager at work has sent round an email to all staff saying that we're having a fire drill at 3pm. Doesn't that partly defeat the object of the fire drill <scratch>

I was a fire officer for a previous company and I was forced to stand near a fire exit during one drill waving my arms in the air and shouting "I'm a fire! I'm a fire!" to make the others turn around and find another exit.
