Matchday thread - Leeds v Toon
I'm going to have to miss this one sadly.
Newcastle return to Premier League action on Saturday, making the relatively short trip to Elland Road for a 12.30pm start against a Leeds United side now managed by Sam Allardyce.
It's live on BT Sport and all 2,900 away section tickets have been sold.
NUFC: Sean Longstaff won't feature as he recovers from a foot injury while Matt Ritchie's season is over due to a knee issue. He's out of contract this summer.
Jamaal Lascelles also will miss the remaining matches with a calf problem sustained in training.
Assuming he plays, Kieran Trippier will reach 50 competitive Magpie appearances in all competitions.
With two away games remaining (Leeds and Chelsea), Newcastle have won eight times on the road this season in the Premier League. Their best ever return in a PL season is nine (in 1993/94* and 2001/02).
Eddie Howe's side have scored 29 goals away from SJP in the PL, a figure they exceeded just twice before in that competition (31 in 1993/94* and 34 in 2001/02).
* 21 away games in that season, 19 in others
Coral price this game as follows:
NUFC win 7/10
The draw 29/10
LUFC win 15/4
NUFC win to nil 9/4
NUFC win at HT and FT 7/2
NUFC come from behind to win 8/1
LUFC: Liam Cooper, Luis Sinisterra, Tyler Adams and Stuart Dallas are all unavailable.
Sam Allardyce's first game as Leeds boss ended in a 1-2 defeat at Manchester City last Saturday; our visit to Elland Road marks his home debut in charge.
The 68 year-old last faced Newcastle in March 2021, when his West Bromwich Albion side drew 0-0 at the Hawthorns en route to their top flight relegation.
There is a parallel with his arrival at the mackems in October 2015 - facing Newcastle in his second game in charge and guiding them to a 3-0 home win over us.
Combining the record of his current and previous clubs, hippo head goes into Saturday's game without a win in eight PL outings and on a five match losing run.
On home soil this season, Leeds have conceded 31 PL goals - a divisional high with Southampton.
Held 1-1 by Leicester City last time out, they've won five times, drawn six and lost six at Elland Road - conceding 12 goals in their last three home games.
Referee: Simon Hooper - the Wiltshire whistler returns for a fourth Newcastle game of the season, including the 0-0 draw with Leeds on Tyneside in December.
First seen taking charge of the season opening home win over Nottingham Forest, Hooper most recently oversaw our defeat at Manchester City in March.

Re: Matchday thread - Leeds v Toon
Nervous for this one based on our lack of pace at the back and our poor mid field interplay last week
Hopefully get a better tune out of our shape tomorrow and carry enough threat of our own to make them more worried about us.
It’s almost their final throw of the dice and I hope we can contain their desperation.
Just please avoid the temptation and irony around the Hippo head narrative

I'm nervous too and would take a draw but a win is needed and I'd like to think we're more than capable of a scrappy victory by a single goal.
2-1 Toon.
2-1 Toon.

I'd be feeling confident if it was anyone other than Allardyce in charge.
Re: Matchday thread - Leeds v Toon
Expecting nothing other than pure Sam shithousery.
I can understand people feeling nervous because it's Sam but we're a totally different beast to what we were when we faced his teams in the past.
For that reason i feel confident and see us winning 2-0.

Still in our hands if we lose this, tho puts pressure on to win all of our remaining games because Liverpool almost certainly will.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?

Struggling to get any rhythm and we are certainly missing Longstaff and his industry

Yeah, commentator was right when he said we miss the linkup of Joelinton and Willock on the left.
We also seem much easier to play through without Longstaff mopping up.
Can’t say I’m a fan of Isak out wide.
Silver lining; it puts Everton in the bottom 3.
