Saylor joins Portland Timbers

Good luck to you Steven. Made of biscuits but love him and wish him luck. The ultimate Mackem WUM as well. Interesting that he's gone to play for a team we've played a couple of times in recent pre-seasons (or is it just be once?). Wonder if he put down some connections while he was out there.

Good luck to him, great servant to the club and if it wasn't for injuries he'd have played for England.

Good move for him, given the choice between going there and the Middle East I know which I'd go for.

Great servant, loyal local lad.
We'll love him for this if nothing else. Pity he never really recovered from the injuries sustained during the shooting.

And in conclusion, how far had you got through reading this before you realised it was my signature?

Like everyone else, credit to him for how much he did love the club, and when he was fit and in his prime, he was capable of being a great CB...unfortunately the fitness frequently failed him.
Portland has some of the best football culture in MLS, and if he miraculously stays healthy I think he can do well over here.

Lower intensity games in the MLS should suit him. He was more than decent at times here, but injuries and lapses of concentration did for him.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?
Re: Saylor joins Portland Timbers
http://www.skysports.com/football/news/ ... nd-timbersFormer Newcastle defender Steven Taylor had a nightmare debut for his new American team Portland Timbers.
The 30-year-old, who joined the Major League Soccer franchise after his Magpies contract expired in the summer, was given a run out in the Timbers reserve team at Los Angeles Galaxy II.
But his appearance was one the centre-back will want to banish from his memory - and quickly.
Just nine minutes into the game he diverted the ball past his own goalkeeper - 1-0.
The hosts then ran in two more goals for a 3-0 half-time lead. Taylor was substituted after the hour mark and watched from the sidelines as - without him - his new team-mates rallied to pull off a miraculous 4-3 victory.

To be fair, joining a league mid-season when everyone is in form and you haven't been playing in half a year probably isn't conducive to a good debut...

And it was only the second team.I'm over Colo wrote:To be fair, joining a league mid-season when everyone is in form and you haven't been playing in half a year probably isn't conducive to a good debut...

Also, having seen the goal, if he hadn't of gone for the ball then a striker would have almost certainly scored.ALF wrote:And it was only the second team.I'm over Colo wrote:To be fair, joining a league mid-season when everyone is in form and you haven't been playing in half a year probably isn't conducive to a good debut...
