We play 1 up top and Gayle is nearly on 20 for the season already. Summer signing Murphy has 1 league appearance and Mitro can't get a look in either. 19 year old Adam Armstrong is out on loan, Ayoze never plays up front. Toney has gone back out on loan. Heardman has even banged in 2 hat tricks for out under 23's in recent weeks. We don't need a striker, let alone a £20m one.TBC wrote:Huge waste? In today's market? I don't think so.ALF wrote:
Would also be a huge waste of £20m.
However, I'd wait until the summer before doing anything like this. The summer window is easier to get in players and who knows who else might become available by then.

Sorry, I thought you were suggesting he's bad value at £20m, rather than it being a bad move for us.ALF wrote:We play 1 up top and Gayle is nearly on 20 for the season already. It's clearly not a position of need right now, I agree with you there, but if your seriously suggesting we have enough depth for the PL then I'd have to disagree. Murphy, Perez, Armstrong & Heardman won't be leading the line for us next year. I still also think Mitro's long term future is far from certain.

I'd rather have Wilson than Perez, if we could do a swap...

Rashford plays regularly for Man United and Armstrong had always been ahead of him. Lookman just signed for Everton and Armstrong is ahead of him. Murphy could be a good back up option next year if we go up and Perez has done a job in the PL for 2 seasons. I think we're well stocked with good, young strikers that need game time to improve.TBC wrote:Sorry, I thought you were suggesting he's bad value at £20m, rather than it being a bad move for us.ALF wrote:

He's had a few good games, but average at best I'd say (admittedly in a poor team).

Perez hasn't improved one bit since he joined. He really is quite s****. But even so, he's scored goals in the Premier League. He can do a job as a 3rd/4th choice.

I always said he was given too much too soon, we put pressure on him to perform when all our other options were playing very poorly so he became a first team player and he just stopped progressing, he needs a spell away from the first team to kick him up the arse and give him that hunger back.

Or maybe it's less about hunger or needing a kick up the arse, and maybe he's just a mediocre footballer?Don Sholeone wrote:I always said he was given too much too soon, we put pressure on him to perform when all our other options were playing very poorly so he became a first team player and he just stopped progressing, he needs a spell away from the first team to kick him up the arse and give him that hunger back.

Nah, his technical ability is there for all to see but I'll admit that he does lack a hunger and physical presence. He isn't even that quick for the kind of player he seems to want to be. He was one of my favourite players last season and I expected him to rip the Championship to shreds but he's disappointed me this season so far.
However he is only 23 and technically playing out of position. He'll definitely never win the Ballon D'or (TJR) but I'd be reluctant to let him leave yet.
