FA Cup match thread - Brum V NUFC
From nufc.com
2016/17:
Birmingham City (a)
Newcastle enter the FA Cup at the Third Round stage this afternoon, facing their Championship rivals at St Andrews in a 3pm start.
The Magpies were allocated 4,900 tickets for this tie in the Railway End of the ground, now re-christened the Gil Merrick Stand.
Were a replay to be required, that has been scheduled for Wednesday January 18th @ 7.45pm (although that could alter in the event of live TV coverage).
The outcome of this and Brentford's Third Round home tie against Eastleigh (also a 3pm KO on Saturday) will decide when our next Championship game is played.
If both the Magpies and the Bees win or lose in the FA Cup then we'll visit Griffin Park in the Championship at 7.45pm on Monday January 16th, live on Sky.
However, if either ourselves or Brentford draw on Saturday, then we'll be going to Griffin Park for a 3pm non-televised league game on Saturday January 14th.
Keep one eye also on the Brighton v MK Dons FA Cup Third Round tie (3pm Saturday), which will decide the fate of our scheduled Championship visit to the Amex Stadium on Saturday January 28th.
That's also Fourth Round weekend, meaning that our league game with the Seagulls can only go ahead on that date if both ourselves and Chris Hughton's mob have exited the FA Cup at the Third Round stage (a replay or two would delay that decision still further).
Utter madness, dumping on fans from a great height.
Where: St Andrews B9 4RL (30,016)
Nearest railway station: New Street (1.5 miles)
Return mileage from SJP: 414 miles
Team: Rafa has confirmed that Aleksandar Mitrovic will start the game. Jonjo Shelvey is suspended (fourth of five games), while Mo Diame, Christian Atsu and Chancel Mbemba have all departed on international duty.
Rolando Aarons and Jesus Gamez are still sidelined but there could be starts for Grant Hanley, Daryl Murphy, Achraf Lazaar and Matz Sels.
Rob Elliot and Massadio Haidara may return to the bench, with the former completing his second 90 minutes for the reserves on Wednesday.
Despite returning to the club after his loan spell at Bolton, Sammy Ameobi isn't eligible to play, having featured for the Trotters in an earlier round.
Stats:
Newcastle have won just one of their last ten FA Cup Third Round ties at the first attempt:
BCFC: Striker Clayton Donaldson is injured and winger Jacques Maghoma will also be missing, following his inclusion in the DR Congo squad for the African Nations Cup Finals in Gabon.
Recently-installed Blues boss Gianfranco Zola will be attempting to secure his first victory at the fifth attempt following three league losses and a draw.
City have exited from the FA Cup on home soil in each of the last five seasons; Bournemouth, West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City and Leeds United all registering 2-1 victories at St. Andrews and Chelsea winning 2-0.
Referee: Neil Swarbrick - another Toon cup tie for the Premier League whistler, who handled our EFL Cup penalty shootout defeat at Hull City in November.

Re: FA Cup match thread - Brum V NUFC
The main reason I want us to get through is because if we do the Brighton game will get rearranged and I'd like us to be going into that game in a good run of form.
Re: FA Cup match thread - Brum V NUFC
Just avoid a replay at all costs, that's all I'm hoping for from this game.

I'm going to the match. So guaranteed to lose

442! Yedlin and lazaar, Murphy and mitro. Big chance for a few players or they may drop off the radar

Colback and Sels aside, that is a very exciting line up.
Glad he's using Lazaar as a singer and not a full back. Wonder who'll be RW and RB between Yedlin and Anita. Hopefully Anita RB and Yedlin on the wing in something like this:

That side has got a great balance to it. Good width and strong in attack without being left too vulnerable defensively.Anita Hanley Lacelles Haidara

Said it before but the hate Sels gets on this forum and in general is ridiculous.
Colback on the other hand, hope this is the last game that useless mackem cronut starts.

Whereas Colback gets no abuse at all? May not be the most gifted player, but he never hides. The teams scapegoat.TBC wrote:Said it before but the hate Sels gets on this forum and in general is ridiculous.

Re: FA Cup match thread - Brum V NUFC
That's the problem. That free kick he gave away against Blackburn was the most brainless tackle I've ever seen on a football pitch.Somebody's pinched my sombrero wrote:Whereas Colback gets no abuse at all? Re: FA Cup match thread - Brum V NUFC
Strongly disagree, he's s*** even at this level. All he gives you is a yellow card a guaranteed stupid tackle (see Blackburn).Somebody's pinched my sombrero wrote:Whereas Colback gets no abuse at all? Hope Tiote has a blinder, so we can finally see the last of Colback.
Re: FA Cup match thread - Brum V NUFC
This. He offers nothing. One dimensional player who can't play as he's supposed to. Clumsy tackler, guaranteed booking every time he plays.TBC wrote:Strongly disagree, he's s*** even at this level.
