Match day thread - Brum v NUFC
Lot of love to nufc.com
Birmingham City (a)
The Magpies return to St. Andrew's for the second time in 2017 on Saturday, following their 1-1 draw there in the FA Cup back in January.
This Championship encounter has a 3pm start and all 3,300 places made available to away supporters in the Railway End aka the Gil Merrick Stand are sold out.
United are seeking a record-breaking fourteenth away league win this season, at a venue where they are unbeaten in their last eight visits in all competitions.
Where: St Andrews B9 4RL (30,016)
Nearest railway station: New Street (1.5 miles)
Return mileage from SJP: 414 miles
Team NUFC - Already without Isaac Hayden and Rolando Aarons reserve full back Jamie Sterry is also sidelined following a groin operation and an ongoing heel issue saw Paul Dummett omitted from the Welsh squad.
A knee injury meanwhile forced Ciaran Clark off during the second half of Saturday's home defeat to Fulham - it's yet to be confirmed how serious that is.
The thigh problem afflicting DeAndre Yedlin is now anticipated to sideline him for around five weeks - following consultation with US national side medics.
As a result of that, Jesus Gamez could be involved again on Saturday, while Grant Hanley and Chancel Mbemba could come in from the cold. The Scottish centre back got a start against Derby County last month but has now been benched for eight games.
The DR Congo international meanwhile last wore a Toon shirt at home to Blackburn Rovers back in November and didn't make the matchday 18 for the home defeat to Fulham last time out.
Full back Massadio Haidara hasn't been seen since two FA Cup starts back in January, while forgotten man Achraaf Lazaar made the most recent of his nine appearances in all competitions in the Oxford loss.
Saturday's game will see the home side wear a special one-off kit promoting the brilliant work of Headway and raising funds to help support brain injury victims.
The teams will be led out by Team GB Paralympian Jack Rutter, a promising footballer with the City Academy until suffering a head injury aged 18.
Former Magpie and Headway supporter Bob Moncur will be interviewed on the pitch at half time, while local volunteers will hand out leaflets explaining their work and promoting a Concussion Aware campaign.
Thanks to No5 Barristers Chambers for donating their City shirt sponsorship space to Headway.
BCFC: Ahead of our visit to B9, City drew 1-1 away to Cardiff City in the Championship on Saturday.
Blues boss Gianfranco Zola has seen his side win just once on home turf in nine league and cup games since taking charge in December 2016 - a 1-0 victory over Fulham in February.
Referee: Simon Hooper - fourth time round for this Wiltshire whistler this season, following the 0-1 loss away to Fulham, a 3-1 home success against Brentford and the 2-0 victory at Wigan.
Travel: for anyone returning to the North East after the game, buses replace trains between York and Darlington from 8pm. The last direct train to Newcastle leaves Birmingham New Street at 5.03pm.

Re: Match day thread - Brum v NUFC
Seeing that Zola is still in charge, I'm confident we'll score 3 or more goals.
Re: Match day thread - Brum v NUFC
Clark is OUT. Medial Ligament problem, not sure how serious it is but it's confirmed he's out here. Dummett is fit to play.

Would like to see Mbemba in, but Hanley hardly put a foot wrong when he's brought in. Likely to be him.

I hope Chancel gets his chance! He showed a lot of promise last season and is still young. Jamaal gets talked about with a lot of praise and for still being so young with room to improve, while Mbemba is another year younger

I'd have Hanley in even if just for his organisation, fingers crossed Lascelles lets him lead the line.CIH wrote:Would like to see Mbemba in, but Hanley hardly put a foot wrong when he's brought in. Likely to be him.

Man crush for Jamaaldini aside, I think I'd like to see the Chancellor and Hanley at the back today. I kinda feel like Clark has carried Lascelles recently.

Thankfully the ginger Pirlo is starting and Zola is still in charge of the opposition.Bodacious Benny wrote:[tweet][/tweet]
