Match day thread - Ipswich Town v NUFC
From NUFC.com
Ipswich Town (a)
It's on to Suffolk later today for a meeting with the Tractor Boys at Portman Road. Kick-off is at 3pm and all 2,000 away places in the Cobbold Stand were sold.
We're yet to lose an away game to a side managed by Mick McCarthy in four attempts (three wins and one draw in games against Millwall, the mackems and Wolves).
United are seeking a record-breaking 14th away league win this season, but have failed to take three points from any of their last three road trips (Reading, Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday) since beating Huddersfield Town.
Where: Portman Road IP1 2DA (30,300)
Nearest railway station: Ipswich (0.3 miles)
Return mileage from SJP: 586 miles
United's last visit here was a 4-0 Championship win during September 2009, against a Town team managed by Roy Keane and featuring Jack Colback.
Three goals in five first half minutes from Kevin Nolan (2) and Ryan Taylor put Newcastle firmly in control before Nolan completed his treble after the break.
To complete a fairly random afternoon, there were debuts for on-loan duo Marlon Harewood and Zurab Khizanishvili, Nile Ranger and Ryan Donaldson both featured and Wesley Baheng was on our bench - the nearest the French forward got to the first team.
NUFC: With both DeAndre Yedlin and Isaac Hayden returning to action against Leeds, United's sick list now consists of the hamstrung Dwight Gayle, almost ready to return Ciaran Clark and recovering surgery pair Rolando Aarons and Jamie Sterry.
Massadio Haidara and Achraaf Lazaar haven't been involved recently, while Sammy Ameobi and Jesus Gamez are also on the verges of selection.
Honouring the memory of Newcastle fan Lee Hope, hike4hopey is a charity fundraising effort aiming to benefit the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Ten of Lee's family and friends including his brother Scott are walking 333 miles in 12 days from the Bobby Robson statue at Portman Road starting on Tuesday.
They'll then make their way to the Bobby statue that's outside St James' Park. If you can spare them a few ££ then you can donate online here
ITFC: Former Magpie Steven Taylor won't feature due to a hamstring season that has curtailed his season.
The Tractor Boys won 2-1 at Burton on Friday but have proved incapable of recording back to back victories this season.
However Mick McCarthy's side have been beaten at Portman Road just four times so far this season, by Huddersfield Town, Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Derby County. In comparison, we've lost five.
That Rams reverse came in January and since then they've played five successive draws before scoring three goals without reply against Wigan.
Referee: Tim Robinson - third time round this season for the whistler from West Sussex, following on from the 0-2 loss to Wolves at SJP when Vurnon Anita saw red and Jonjo Shelvey turned the air blue.
Robinson then returned for the 2-2 home draw with QPR - yellow-carding Ritchie as he had against Wolves.

We don't do things easy so I'm going for a horrible 0-1/1-2 loss that sends the entire city into a meltdown of epic proportions.

Think I'm more nervous for these next few games than during our relegation battles over the last few seasons.
Don't hinder the Trinder

Same, the outcome is pretty much the same in both scenarios - f*** it up and we're in the Championship next year.MultipleJesuses wrote:Think I'm more nervous for these next few games than during our relegation battles over the last few seasons.

I don't know why but I've got the mindset that if we don't go up automatically we're doomed to another season of Championship football, as if the playoffs are an instant write off

Kindly deeds done for free!
Re: Match day thread - Ipswich Town v NUFC
I'd go unchanged from Friday. Even keeping Lascelles in. We were brilliant and if we can do that again we'll get 3 points.
Re: Match day thread - Ipswich Town v NUFC
The good news? Of the teams in the play offs as it stands, only Sheffield Wednesday have a better record against us over two games this season.biggeordiedave wrote:We would bottle it. The bad news? If we finish 3rd, who are we looking likely to play? Why, Sheffield Wednesday of course.

Can't believe people are talking about the playoffs. Huddersfield will drop points in the run in, they're clearly running out of puff.

Re: Match day thread - Ipswich Town v NUFC
Even if we're being pessimists we should get 6 points from our final 4 games. If that happens then Huddersfield will need to win their final 5 to finish ahead of us!!! People need to chill. They play some decent teams. Even IF they managed to win 4/5 we'd only need 1 win and 1 draw from our final 4 to finish ahead of them on GD.

Should win... but this is us we're talking about. We haven't half made it hard for ourselves at times this season.
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

Re: Match day thread - Ipswich Town v NUFC
Uninspiring line up. Too many changes from a team that put in a brilliant performance. Obviously has doubts over some of them playing 2 games in 4 days. And he's 'rotated' Mbemba out rather than Lascelles. Bellend.

Would rather have seen Anita on the bench instead of him though. I'd love it if he never played for us again.Bodacious Benny wrote:Colback well and truly out of favour tho
