On my way back from the match and quick thoughts:

Perez is a f***ing passenger, can't believe we are having yet another season of waiting for him to realise his potential in that no. 10 role. Didn't see the replay for the Shelvey incident but don't need to, I know he's a cronut.

Manquillo and Atsu had good games, Merino looks a player too.

So we played one of the leagues best teams who will be title challengers and we held our own, Maquillo looked solid, Atsu was our MotM, Merino (also looking like a classy player) coming in for Shelvey, Lejeune looked solid and hopefully injury isnt that bad, i think there are a hell of a lot of positives to take forward, if we get Kenedy and Perez in then ill be certain of us staying up.

Next game i hope to see Merino and Hayden with De Jong as CAM.

I don't even think that Barton was this much of a prick when he was with us.

I think we did well, our defence was pretty solid even after 2 injuries, which shows that (hopefully) the defenders are disciplined all the way through and not just the starters. Atsu was on fire today, really really impressed after all the comments about the left wing being our weaker side, he had a decent attempt that made lloris do something, a couple of good balls in and winning corners. I think the two enforced subs really mattered, if we had been able to keep Lejeune and freshen up the attack even by one player it would've helped with the fatigue playing with 10 men causes.

That said, our finishing needs to be sharpened. Not sure if Gayle is still warming up/shrugging off the injury but the fact noone was on the end of Atsu's cross in the first half was criminal. Oh, and Shelvey needs to be fined at the very least, Rafa practically benched mitro in the championship for similar (and at least that was in open play, not when the player was already on the ground)

EDIT -

I liked Perez but have to agree with this. He reminds me a little of Gini, vanish for ages until people start grumbling, score a brace and then rinse and repeat. Would like to see Mitro/Gayle finally used (unless there's a reason for not using it been found out in training <scratch>

Positives to take 11 v 11 looked solid enough.

Shelvey stupidly got sent off. Injuries also had a big affect.

We won't be playing Spurs each week
I'll Hazard a guess

I thought Manquillo was solid but was at fault for both goals

Same. Really impressed by him overall but he switched off twice, imo.

Good game for Manquillo. He is stronger than in previous years... Can be a good sign.

We need a Left Back.

Hayden is amazing. What a bargain hire...

Shelvey.. well. Stupid. I hate see him doing things like this. He is the main cause of the lost today.

Atsu was brilliant, but he need some help.

Pérez... Nothing.

Gayle alone. I hope Mitro becomes in starting player... With him we have more impact in the pitch, gain a lot of metres and some aereal game...

This. He looked good when he came on. Hopefully will make the position his own over the next 3 games, after which Shelvey can try and win his place back.

Hopefully ...

Honestly think we should have started Mitro, Gayle wasn't going to get anything against those two.

I thought the first half was a decent start, if a little dull. Shelvey ruined it and we lost our resolve.

Gonna be a tough season but there was some promise (Atsu and Merino).

Side note: I f***ing hate Dele Alli.

How bad a tackle was Kane on Lejeune?

It wasn't horrendous, looked more like bad timing than malicious

Not bad really. Got the ball and the player. I think the injury came more from landing badly than any contact from Kane.

Think the idea was to counter, but the distribution was poor, just aimless hoofing for the most part. Merino's looked handy when he came on. Gayle didn't look completely fit either.
