Shakespeare sacked
Leicester have sacked Craig Shakespeare. Does he have a future as England manager? Who will Leicester appoint to succeed him?

I've got to admit sometimes it's difficult to tell if you're being tongue in cheek or genuinely believe these thingsNickKIELCEPoland wrote:Leicester have sacked Craig Shakespeare. Does he have a future as England manager? Who will Leicester appoint to succeed him?

Pardew would be a good shout. He's been manager of West Ham, Newcastle and Crystal Palace and taken each of those clubs to a top 5 position in a major competition.Acid Hippo wrote:

There's a certain 50 something with all the right badges who's been just waiting for a top flight job to give him his first managerial role.

No, Peter Beardsley wouldn't be the right choice. If it was the Toon it would be different - that would lead to the special magic that happens when a much loved servant of the club (Keegan/Newcastle - Guardiola/Barça - Zidane/Real) meets the fans who love him. It would have that special reaction which leads to such great results. With Leicester, they'd have to rely purely on Beardsley's managerial skills, and those haven't been proven, although they will have been sharpened by all his experience.Colly wrote:There's a certain 50 something with all the right badges who's been just waiting for a top flight job to give him his first managerial role.

Well, that was only eight matches - not much on which to form an opinion, I'd say.
Re: Shakespeare sacked
Maybe they should bring in John Carver, he is a special kind of manager.

Yes, he ticks the box for specialness. The trouble is that he doesn't tick the next box, which asks if the specialness if for good managerial qualities.Hjl wrote:Maybe they should bring in John Carver, he is a special kind of manager.

Craig Shakespeare and Harry Redknapp are the only English managers after Terry Venables with Barcelona in 1986, who have taken clubs to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, previously called the European Cup.Bodacious Benny wrote:I've got to admit sometimes it's difficult to tell if you're being tongue in cheek or genuinely believe these thingsNickKIELCEPoland wrote:Leicester have sacked Craig Shakespeare. Doesn't mean a lot. Di Matteo won the CL but he's not a particularly good manager.NickKIELCEPoland wrote:Craig Shakespeare and Harry Redknapp are the only English managers after Terry Venables with Barcelona in 1986, who have taken clubs to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, previously called the European Cup.Bodacious Benny wrote:

Well, some people might disagree with your opinion on Di Matteo.Bodacious Benny wrote:Doesn't mean a lot. Di Matteo won the CL but he's not a particularly good manager.NickKIELCEPoland wrote:
