One of the only songs to make me cry <wah>
Really? I think it's all right, but I wouldn't really say it has much emotion in it either. Time Out always seemed like an album of expensive restaurant music to me.

This thread (Galliano aside, they should stick to making liqueur) is so good, why haven't I found it before <awe>

I really like certain jazz, but I know next to nothing about it. I go weekly to a GREAT jazz night and I really like some of the songs/arrangements. Many I recognize, but I don't know their names so I can't buy any of them :(

<awe> What certain jazz do you enjoy? What style or sound?

I guess not the acid stuff, leaning almost towards blues. But to be honest I don't really know, the only album I really own is Suspicious Activity? by The Bad Plus. As far as singing goes I'm all for it but I dislike that really affected style half way between hotel pianist singer and 'cub singer' from Shooting Stars. Oh and from my love of ska I always like any sort of wind instrument.
The best jazz I've ever seen was a guest Harmonica player. I remember thinking "A Harmonica player, why am I here?" But I was wrong he was phenomenal.

On this thread so far, I really like the John Coltrane/Art Pepper/Guido Manusardi/Mingus stuff
Dave /Brubeck sounded like he was playing (very well) in a hotel, not my thing though.

Edit: That Miles' Davies song is one of the ones I hear alot and like but don't know the name <diva>

Edit 2: If anyone finds themselves in Liverpool on Tuesday night go to this http://www.parrjazz.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . It's a hotel/bar/venue/recording studio. Last time I stayed at the hotel as I came out of my room a jazz album was being recorded next door!

Cool, that's a pretty wide variety of styles you enjoy then. I'd be happy to recommend a whole bunch of stuff based on what you like, if you were interested.

Yeah I used to play the harmonica as a kid, I can still remember seeing this awesome jazz player in London and afterwards I told him I wanted to be a harmonica player so he gave me one of his <awe>. It's a surprisingly awesome instrument that I've only seen a few people play to its full potential, and it isn't used enough in jazz either.

Yea please!
This dude had like 6 different Harmonicas. One was like 35 cm long, really deep notes.

Saw three of the guys from Snarky Puppy the other day. Was good, apart from the keyboard player, he had it tuned to sound very... well... electronic yet xylophoneish. It didn't really work with the other instruments or what he was playing. A normal piano sound would have been better. Having said that the bassist and the especially the drummer were excellent. Their version of MJ's 'The way you make me feel ' <awe>

Listened to that jazz Skalps, I liked most of it! Bought a few albums

So technically he's a Blues man, but last night I saw Victor Brox and he was epic (no good quality youtube videos I can find). So much energy for a 72 year old

Apparently Hendrix said he was the only white man who he thought could really pay blues.

Need a modern, brilliant jazz album for my mum this Xmas. Trying to listen to as much as I can find on spotify, but might need some help.

An album with lots of improvisation would be good. Just listening to the John Coltrane stuff and I think she'd love that, but I don't know how many CDs or stuff of his already. Any modern stuff like that would be good.

Oh guys, if you like Jazz, you should consider donating to the Pink Lane Jazz Co-op. It's a local Newcastle group who are buying the Globe Pub to turn it into a place for Jazz and that. http://www.pinklanejazz.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
