The first half an hour or so when they're introducing the characters is just cringeworthily cynical, it gets a bit better later on but the first half or so is utter dross.

I watched Triple 9 last night, pretty average corrupt cop movie.

Has anyone watched the TV series Rectify?

Someone has recommended it to me but they are very hit and miss with their recommendations. Looking for a second opinion before committing.

just seen Suicide Squad <laugh>

The start's great, but the ending is terrible. never heard such a succession of cheesy 'dramatic' lines. bad guys were s**** as well.

Just watched Suicide Squad, wasn't good and wasn't bad imo just average, I didn't like Leto's Joker though, it just lacked any type of joker personality, kinda glad his role was limited.

Watched Trumbo last night. Really good film with some great performances, especially from Bryan Cranston.

Just watched Train to Busan , a Korean zombie film. One of the best zombie films I've watched in ages! Highly recommend it.

Just watched Terminator Genisys - decent film and the special effects were really good.

Just watched Maginificent Seven. Decent film, kind of obvious how it was going to play out but I found it enjoyable nonetheless.

Because this is the fourth (at least) iteration of that film?

This. I'm sick of this current fad for just re-hashing old films.

If the lazy cunts can't be bothered to put some effort and imagination into it, then I can't be bothered to pay for the privilege of watching these second rate re-makes. I'll just watch Seven Samurai instead. Or even A Bug's Life. At least that tried to put a different spin on the tale.

I think remakes can provide some worth on limited occasions if:
They are cross language (I don't mind subtitles but some do)
They remove unpleasant things from old films that were once acceptable
Were effects heavy films and effects are much better now (59 remake of Ben Hur vs 25 version)
The original was bad, but had potential

But otherwise yeah, just watch the original. You are right on different spin, Mad Max did this really well

And me ... always thought that film was overrated personally.

Didn't know there was a remake. I'll make sure to avoid it now I do.
