Re: The Message of Hate Thread
The Dianafication of British society is a truly depressing thing to behold. Every famous death is followed by an "outpouring of grief", usually fronted by some egos on Facebook who take the opportunity to tell all 800 of their 'friends' some banal anecdote from their difficult times in life and how the dead celebrity kept them going. Then the media starts telling you that you're in mourning whether you like it or not: "world mourns pop superstar" articles, trigger happy with the collective "we", herd the idiots in and start milking as much as they can before the corpse gets too cold. The sheer weight of articles, news pieces, vox pops with blubbing weirdos holding flowers outside some vaguely relevant location eventually starts convincing the average Joe Armchair that he's devastated, and is part of a collective nationwide or even global mourning. Then it moves to the street. I was even stopped in town at total random by some moist old creature who apparently needed "time to adjust" after Bowie died. Who are you? Why are you bringing this up in public? Had you even listened to Bowie since 1982? Get a hold of yourself.overseasTOON wrote:Some bloke was outside George Michaels house claimed that as he grew up without a father he considered George Michael as a father figureTsi wrote:The reaction on social media to the death of someone famous.

The sad truth is that next year will probably be worse. More and more people are becoming famous each year, of course we're going to witness more deaths.PTAO wrote:People who go on about 2016 as if it's a real curse or something.

Re celebrity deaths. Some of wailing when a very old celebrity or 50/60s but having done a load of drugs/booze is silly. It's expected at that age, they had a good innings.
Attenborough is going to be bad when it happens (celebrate his life its been long and fruitful). Honestly I hope I'm out of the country when the Queen dies, it'll be sickening

I'll have to see his face every day I buy stuff or send a letter. If you call that "life"...PTAO wrote:Life will be so different, just like the day after Brexit and Trump.skalpel wrote:

I assume money will be phased out too, rather than a one day switchover.

50 - 60 is old? I'm on borrowed time then.

Don't worry, he said very old celebrities or else 50/60 year old celebrities who have done Iggy levels of blow. You may be an old bugger, but there's still life to be had .Toondes wrote:Actually he said 'very old'

Re: The Message of Hate Thread
This, absolutely. I may be a miserable bastard but I get really annoyed at outpourings of grief towards total strangers just because they are celebrities. Sure acknowledge the sadness of the event and spare a thought for their actual loved ones and then get on with life as normal. Anything beyond that is attention seeking pure and simple.skalpel wrote:The Dianafication of British society is a truly depressing thing to behold.
