I think Perch looks a better DM than Raylor. Raylor's winger/full back cover, Perch DM/CB.

Just f***ing go for it! Villa look like a confidence team to me, they don't have our defensive resilience if they concede one or two early one. Not as dangerous going forward either. Bare in mind we're at home too, should whop them!

Villa's only real threat that i can see will be on the counter which is why I'd like to play 2 CMs that will hold well I haven't really thought the whole thing through but we'll have to avoid getting too many players too high up the pitch

Re: Starting XI vs Villa

Krul
Simpson Williamson Colo Santon
Benny Guthrie Perch Gutierrez
Best Ba

Cisse on for Best

Jobas definitely needs to move back on to the left. He looked good in the free role because the opposition didn't expect him there - now he's been found out a little bit.

---------------Krul--------------
Simpson-Williamson-Coloccini-Santon
Obertan---Perch---Ben Arfa---Jonas
----------Cisse----Ba------------

Maybe start Lovenkrands instead of Cisse or Best instead of Ba if one is not quite fresh.

Definitely agree with starting Cisse on the bench, let him ease his way into the team and it'll give us a lift if we're behind when he comes on.

-----------------------Krul-----------------------

Simpson---Williamson---Coloccini---Santon

Ben Arfa-----Guthrie--Gosling--Perch-----Gutierrez

-----------------------Ba------------------

Abeid on for Perch, Obertan on for HBA, Cisse on for Ba (if we're winning)

I really wish we'd brought some defensive cover in.

At least we can stop calling him a utility player, he's a defensive mid!

I wouldn't want to drop Cisse right in, it might just be counter productive as he hasn't played with the team for long (though then again it did work for the other Cisse on Weds..).
Play Perch and Guthrie quite deep (maybe Guthrie a bit more forward) which allows Jonas and HBA especially to focus on attack and not have to worry as much about tracking back. Still not too confident about HBA in a 4-4-2 but it could all change with the two Dembas, but I would play that for now.
Haha, who'd have thought a few weeks ago that we'd all be putting Perch in CM rather than Abeid/Vuckic/Taylor/Gosling etc
My thoughts exactly as I read posts!

This is definately the way to go.
Cisse will be insistent on impressing so get him straight on from the start.

Don't play such a highline and this should be ok. <ok>

I'll agree Guthrie has been a bit of a revelation this season, but I'd thought Tiote had re-found his form following his injury - and absolutely bossed the Man U match. Guthrie is a very solid CM to be sure, but he doesn't have the same influence on a match as Cabaye and Tiote do when at their best (IMHO).

They may be 5'11, but they offer no aerial threat. Neither are renowned as physical players, so the CB pairing would be safe.
I still think Colo is incredibly lightweight. And he is the stronger of your suggested partnership, think we'd get bullied without some form of height in the back four.

<yikes>

Perch next to Colo at CB is a big no no.

Hopefully we go :
Krul
Simmo Willo Colo Santoon
Obertan Perch Guthrie Jonas
BenArfa Ba

No way does Guthrie deserved to be dropped man. Even if Cabaye and Tiote were back for this game Guthrie should be starting. He has been our best CM this season, better than both of them. He's earnt his place and deserves to be playing.

Here goes

We wouldn't win a single header with that though, Colo and Perch are both rubbish in the air. And Simmo is pretty quick, quicker than Perch anyway. Also, would never play Vuckic in a midfield 2, would have Raylor, Abeid, Gosling and Perch ahead of him.
But Villa don't offer an Aerial threat from open play, so the lack of Height at CB won't be much of an issue. For set pieces, just have Ba marking Dunne. he's the aerial threat, nutralise him and it's 3 points with my formation.
