On to what? We know he doesn't care about winning enough (to spend more), and he wants to make money. The only way to do that will be to sell the club, get his money out, and use it for something more profitable.

Not really anything all that new, so saw no need to make a new thread. Confirmation that we are still for sale, and Stavely supposedly still interested.

Newcastle United have confirmed the club is still for sale and that contract talks with manager Rafa Benitez are "ongoing".

Owner Mike Ashley put the Magpies up for sale in October after 10 years in charge of the Premier League club.

In January he ended £250m takeover talks with businesswoman Amanda Staveley, though Staveley said she was still interested.

At a fans forum last week, the club stated "the position has not changed".

"If or when there is anything to update, the club would do so," it added.

Newcastle also confirmed talks are "ongoing" over extending the contract of boss Benitez, who has a year remaining on his current deal.

Ashley, 53, has been a divisive figure at St James' Park, with some supporters regularly protesting about the way the businessman has run the club after buying it for £134.4m in 2007.

The club have been relegated twice from the Premier League during Ashley's reign and are currently 10th in the top flight, having won promotion last season under Spaniard Benitez, who joined United in March 2016.

Nobody is going to know exact details but we do have the information and reports from the takeover bid to go off of, there was a lot of talk that 300m would have been close were it not for clauses etc, and we haven't significantly changed in the context we are a Premier League club with a fairly moderate threat of relegation, that will be the same come August/September time, as it stands right now there has been no significant changes or investment that has increased the value by 100m, we are stuck with the same squad, same facilities, same TV money, same premier league status.
But we are safe in PL for at least 12 months. Given the tv monies that possibly adds at least 50-70m to the valuation.
No rationale for that number. Just dreamt it up in my little head...

This valued our squad alone at £197m, can't click to see a breakdown though. Obviously club assets less debts/loans would need to be factored in to give a crude value of the club as a whole. Not saying that article is accurate, hence crude...

I was going to say the same thing, people keep saying the club is worth this or that. Can they lead me through how exactly they came to that number? Accurately valuing an organization the size of NUFC is hard, especially when so much is tied up in players whos values change constantly. Without access to their books its impossible.

Just from my point of view, which obviously doesn't include any inside knowledge or really any basis of any kind. It's more an arbitrary number that for me would seem like a decent amount for a club likes ours to take, and satisfy Ashley in terms of his previous outgoings and plans going forward.

Now that we are safe I think this could go through.

PCP will play hardball around £350m. It's a fair price.

Considering the tv monies due to come in its not a massive risk either. With Benitez at the helm that £100m tv money all into players would see us comfortably mid table this term- building to top 6 in 19-20 season.

I'm feeling highly optimistic.......!!!!

As I predicted this would happen in December i'm not surprised at all.

And why not. If the buyers wanted to reduce the price on the basis of relegation risk then it is fair for the seller to increase it based on certainty of safety.

Personally I think £350m is the fairer price now, £400m is completely taking the piss.
I'm not sure any of us can really determine what is a "fair price". It's all based on the stadium and training assets, revenue streams, brand value, opportunity costs, roster value, etc. The value of the club is much more than the risk of relegation. At the end of the day, how much is a prospective ownership group willing to pay to get a slice of the PL pie? Premier league clubs are a limited resource.
