He's largely done not too bad in his managerial career up until the last 18 months at Stoke.
Imagine Robbie Savage though <neg>
I quite like savage but he is insufferable about Hughes, not as bad as Jason Mohammed is about Pulis tho.

These guys also benefit from being in a large group of mediocre managers, of which only 3 can get relegated a season.
Yeah I suppose that is fair - they aren't inspiring appointments and f*** knows I wouldn't be overjoyed with any of them. And I suppose Carlos Cavarhal is showing that more of a gamble can work <ok>

Paco wrote:Almost half of those appointments are actually relatively successful.

Allardyce successful (to a degree) at Blackburn, Palace, West Ham and Sunderland.

Pardew successfully for us, West Ham and Palace.

Hughes successful for Blackburn and Stoke.

Hodgson a success at Fulham and West Brom.

Pulis a success at Stoke and Palace (possibly West Brom too).

Moyes a success at Everton.

Sure by the end they've usually annoyed the fans but they generally have done well for at least a season at each club.

The thing is that these guys represent one of the worst bits of the prem for me - the mid and lower tables just giving up, going to a manager who they know will at 9 times out of 10 keep them up, then sack them and bring in a clone when it goes t*** up.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when these mediocre managers go in and convince these owners/directors to hire them, suggesting they will do better than someone younger or with fresh ideas. People will say it's being risk-adverse, but for all their experience, what have they done to prove they're a less risky option.

Or Stoke and Southampton both relegated. And Hughes to became a pioneer. To get relegated with two teams in one season.

Silva looks like there is a manager in there somewhere, but not exactly a firefighter.

Also, obliquely related, there are reports that Pardew has a clause in his contract which guarantees him more money in a pay off should he be sacked mid season. Could explain why he's still in the position, doing a bang up job at that.
And Carver gets paid out in sausages rolls and Newcastle Brown

Southampton have done admirably with the amount of player and manager turnover they've had the past several years, but at some point it was going to catch up with them. Especially for a club that was perhaps overachieving due to having a very clear play style and club culture, it's hard to maintain that when constantly having to overhaul the coaching staff and squad.
