Dear me, as if Ashley isn't bad enough, his only serious competition is someone having a f***ing whip round.
To be fair struggle to get investment to purchase the club does not necessarily impact the post-takeover spending power. As the purchase would clear the debt to Mike Ashley, we could reasonably take out a loan against future income (which could be very short term, e.g. against the rest of this season's income, or longer term revenues) to invest; as a business worth £300m and an annual turnover in the region of £120m, it would be straightforward and financially manageable to get a loan to provide funds for immediate investment in playing staff or training ground improvements. That could be a short term loan until TV money arrives, or a longer term investment e.g. mortgaging the training ground to finance investment in it. Of course, investing with interest-free capital (i.e. interest-free loans or pure cash) is the most favourable solution, but it's not a crisis if some amount of paid financing is required.

Also part of the issue with the way Mike Ashley runs NUFC at the moment is he runs it like a retailer - i.e. cash is king. This is a naive approach in a business that sees large capital fluctuations across the year (e.g., transfer windows, irregular TV money, 3 months a year without home games). Short-term financing that smooths that curve would enable spending without a significant financial cost.
I also imagine there are more ownership groups with relatively silent minority owners than people realize. So the fact he might be trying to add a few more small investors to the group isn't necessarily damning, especially if trying to put together a large enough group that can throw some money around later.

Apparently Kenyon has been trying to "crowd-fund" his takeover. Asking for investors to put in a minimum 1m so he can reach the total <laugh>
As believable as one of lassassinblancs transfer rumours <fist>

Just need to see a bit of progress while the transfer window remains fresh. No last minutes rush.

Wish his pathetic takeover attempt would f*** off so Ashley will let us spend £5m on the new Joselu.

Does this mean Kenyon will be given 20 minutes as a CM?

No news in the press: people complain and are skeptical
News in the press: people complain and are skeptical

I completely understand that nobody will be happy until it's finally done, but you also can't have it both ways in the lead up. And if you think a story this big in the region, regarding this much money will stay quiet until a ribbon cutting, that's unrealistically hopeful, and hearing this news stories isn't an indictment.

It’s more entertaining than the turgid football we play every week.
Indeed it is, but I don't watch games anymore... I'm confused, is this a win/win situation for me? <laugh>

Is Kenyon still mates with Jorge Mendes?
If so maybe we could become a feeder club for Wolves <roll>

The whole thing smacks of desperation. TJR is spot on, if anyone actually believes this is a development in the eventual sale of the club they need their heads examined.
It's not massive progress. It is further evidence of things we already know - that Kenyon is seriously interested, and remains so - which is only a good thing.

I understand the cynicism and frustration but people are talking as if this is bad news. It's not gamechanging news, but it's definitely decent news. Like 6/10 news.
Why is this 6/10 news? The quotes from the letter wouldn’t need to be stated in internal correspondence between Kenyon and Ashley. In my view it was always intended for the fans, meaning it’s nothing more than PR.

As has been said many times now, if a takeover was going to happen, it’d just happen. We wouldn’t have these ‘leaks’ and little updates to let us know Kenyon is still kicking about.

No he isn't.
He is quite clearly seriously interested... you don't hire the expensive lawyers he has if you're not. Whether that means he'll be able to complete a deal, who knows. Ashley will not make it easy for any buyer. But if you think Peter Kenyon would put his reputation on the line for the sake of helping out Ashley... there's reasonable cynicism and there's conspiracy theories, and that sounds like the latter.
