I quite enjoyed living and working in Belgium when the family were back in the UK. I could go out for a few beers after work, eat lots of crap, watch football and all without being moaned at.

Makes me nostalgic just thinking of it.

That's a great read. As someone who didn't even move from Teesside to Durham for work (I commute) due to family network here for the kids I can't imagine what the length of the country is like.

Yes, but given Mbemba had been at NUFC for 8 months when Rafa arrived, it seemed more a question of Mbemba's commitment, than Rafa's inability to work around it.

As I said we do have intermediaries in place with Joselu and Schar both German speakers who have helped Muto

I agree it’s both inefficient and doesn’t bode well but in the intermediary position between them not knowing and knowing the language it makes sense to have one. What’s the point in signing a player that can’t speak the language if you then can’t use them for however long until they’ve learned it to a decent degree - that is much more inefficient

Yeah I wouldn’t have it as a long term arrangement but certainly for the transition period it makes perfect sense.

Hope to see Muto in the fold soon, surely he's more deserving of a place on the bench than Joselu. Also if we want to be more attacking-wise at home and still use three at the back this could be a option..

Even though it looks too attacking just imagine it, Almiron in a free role spreading balls to that front three and running in behind Rondon with Perez and Muto in and around him plus they can all interchange positions while Kenedy and Ritchie are bombing forward giving us a outlet on the wing then our back-three stays behind with Longstaff holding. Stuff of dreams ayy. The entertainers of 2019!

A little but I think Muto is putting more effort into actually learning English something Mbemba didn't. I think with Mbemba, one of Rafa first thoughts was that he needed to improve his English and that for a player who had been in the country for the last 6 months he had put very little effort into it, and he preferred to rely on others to pass on what was being said to him.

This continued for the Championship season despite what Rafa asked him to do. We'll see what happens with Muto but from as I said I've heard he is making more of an effort even asking Maya Yoshida to converse with him in English while on International duty so he can get to grips.
