Watched the highlight reel and I hope to hell we learn to defend before the start of the season.
If my memory serves me, Mrs Doubtfire cocked up dinner and then spent $140 feeding the family.

If that means we play shockingly until January and spend £140m to stave off relegation, that'll be a fun rollcoaster to experience. <dotheameobi>

We can make ten subs and I think Redfearn is planning to, so I wouldn't read too much into the lineup.
Aye, should never read too much into pre season at all. Not that it will stop people.

Asia cup - Wolves v NUFC

Wolves (n)
LIVE ON SKY SPORTS 11am

Newcastle face Premier League opposition in their first game of pre-season this morning, when they kick off the Premier League Asia Trophy against Wolves in the Chinese city of Nanjing.

Kick-off at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre is at 11am BST (6pm local time) and is live on Sky Sports.

The Ware Rooms on Carliol Square will have both NUFC games live on their big screen TVs.

The Ware Rooms are at 17 Carliol Square NE1 6UQ - 5 minutes walk from both Monument and Manors Metro.

The second game of the tournament then sees PL Champions Manchester City face West Ham at the same venue in a 1.30pm BST start (8.30pm local time).

All four teams then move on Shanghai, with the two losing sides from Nanjing meeting at 10am BST (5pm) on Saturday before the winners do battle at 12.30pm BST (7.30pm). Both games are in the Hongkou Stadium.

Manchester City's preparations for the Asian Cup were less than perfect, "administrative problems" meaning that their flight from England to China was delayed by 48 hours and they only arrived on Tuesday.

NUFC: Overseen by Academy coaches Ben Dawson and Neil Redfearn and first team goalkeeping coach Simon Smith, The Magpies travelled with these 27 players:

GK: Darlow, Dubravka, Harker, Woodman

DF: Bailey, Clark, Dummett, Fernandez, Lascelles, Lazaar, Manquillo, Schar, Sterry, Watts

MF: Aarons, Colback, Hayden, Ki, M.Longstaff, S.Longstaff, Murphy, Ritchie, Shelvey

FW: Allan, Gayle, Muto, Sorensen

That headcount includes six U23 squad players: Elias Sorensen, Tom Allan, Owen Bailey, Nathan Harker, Matthew Longstaff and Kelland Watts.

Only Harker has played at senior level previously for the club (in a kickabout against Royal Antwerp in Spain during March 2018). Watts was an unused substitute in the Premier League at Fulham in May.

Absent from the party are Almiron (extended holiday after international duty), Saivet (still on international duty) and messrs Atsu, Elliot, Lejeune and Yedlin (assorted fitness issues).

WWFC: Nuno Espirito Santo has a squad of 26 players to select from as follows:

Bennett, Boly, Otto, Coady, Cornbeanu, Cundle, Dendoncker, Ennis, Francis, Gibbs-White, Jota, Kilman, Marques, Moutinho, Miranda, Neves, Norris, Perry, Patricio, Ruddy, Samuels, Sanderson, Taylor, Traore, Vinagre. Wan.

Like the Magpies, a number of U18 and U23 players are selected, including Taylor Perry, Luke Cundle, Ed Francis, Terry Taylor, Niall Ennis and Austin Samuels - the latter pair scoring against Newcastle U23s last season.

Wolves will return from China to prepare for their first competitive game of the season, a Europa League 2nd Qualifying Round tie at Molineux on Thursday 25th against either Crusaders or B36 Torshavn.

Absentees include Matt Doherty (injured), Romain Saiss and Raul Jimenez (post-international holiday).

Tickets: neither venue is sold out and tickets will be available to buy on the day.

Prices for the 61,000 capacity stadium in Nanjing range from £10 to 65 (VIP £121) and entry to the 33,000 capacity Shanghai venue is between £32 and £120 (VIP £176).

Rules: If matches are drawn after 90 minutes, then a result will be achieved via a penalty shootout.

A maximum of 10 substitutes are permitted.

Stats:

This will be Newcastle's second appearance in the Asian Trophy, having taken part in the inaugural event in Malaysia back in 2003.

That saw them defeat a Birmingham City side managed by a certain Steve Bruce 2-0 before drawing 0-0 with Chelsea and losing 4-5 on penalties - Jermaine Jenas incurring the wrath of Sir Bobby Robson with his failed attempt at a chip that proved decisive.

Magpies v Wolves - last 10:

2018/19: drew 1-1 (a) Hayden
2018/19: lost 1-2 (h) Perez
2016/17: won 1-0 (a) Mitrovic
2016/17: won 2-0 (h) Ritchie, Gouffran (LC)
2016/17: lost 0-2 (h)
2011/12: drew 2-2 (h) Cisse, Gutierrez
2011/12: won 2-1 (a) Ba, Gutierrez
2010/11: won 4-1 (h) Nolan, Sh.Ameobi, Lovenkrands, Gutierrez
2010/11: drew 1-1 (a) Carroll
2003/04: drew 1-1 (h) Bowyer

The most recent non-competitive meeting of the two sides came at Molineux in August 2002, when Premier League Newcastle beat their second tier hosts 2-0 thanks to a brace from Lomana LuaLua.

Murphy, Lazaar and Sterry? Why Darlow over Woodman too? I hope this is with the shop window in mind.

For all we know, Gayle may be carrying a hamstring pull or is prepping his sale. Great news all round.

Teams out for the Wolves game, no Gayle to be seen oddly, and we're being kind to someone by giving Hayden a preseason. Hope Muto nicks a couple.
