A league more competitive top to bottom is more entertaining for fans (IMO), but for the question of a strong league, I think the strongest league will have top clubs that can beat the best of Europe, while also having league depth. Hypoethetically if every league's clubs played against everyone else in Europe, what league would have the best overall record.

<ok>

It's an interesting argument generally, is a league where teams are struggling to put a run of games together and seemingly anyone can beat anyone a weak league or a strong league?

Discuss.

Definitely a strong league. Highlighted by the fact the most recent Champions League final was contested between two Premier League teams, as was the Europa League final.

For me it seems like overall quality of play etc has gone down for lots of teams in the PL. I agree that anyone beating anyone is good, but doesn’t point to the quality being high necessarily.

I see it as quite similar to the season under Pardew where we got to Europe, we were great that year but benefited from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool having stinkers. This time round it's Arsenal, Spurs and Man Utd, and while I can't see us competing with them all season there's a reasonable chance that one of the teams around us could finish above them this year.
For sure. I guess my original point is that almost every year a few of those teams have stinkers, and I think that'll continue happening going forward as the rest of the league has more money and ability to spend and makes it harder for the same 4-6 clubs to always separate themselves. So I think it's a bit lame to dismiss any other teams' achievements under the guise that it's because the "league is weak this year" (not saying you're doing that).

Yes, I agree we need more positivity on here.

Let's face it Bruces' free flowing, attacking style of football has us on the brink of European qualification and any lingering thoughts of relegation were banished weeks ago and, even as I type this, we're on an FA Cup run the likes of which haven't been seen for years. In each of the last two transfer windows we've broken, if not smashed, our previous record transfer fee paid for a player and there's plenty of time left in the current window for that record to be broken again.

This is why I love this club!

I'm not by any stretch a pessimist or leap on everything the club does and put a negative spin on it. But I'm sure if you look at the points / goals etc. that teams in the top half (outside of Man C and Liverpool) have got this season I think it'd be down on the average.
Only thing different I see is there isnt a dominant top 6, its more of a top 2 or even top 1 this year with the way city have performed, but that only has a bearing on the top spots, not the rest of the league, I actually think it's been pretty strong for the rest of the league, Sheffield have been fantastic, you are seeing Southampton of late really putting in some top performances again, we're having a very good season, Wolves have kicked on from their initial stumble, teams like Norwich and Villa although their positions aren't great they have been very dangerous and played some cracking football this season.

There’s no doubt that outside the top 2 or 3 the PL is piss poor this year.
Is it really that different than other years? Or I should say, I feel like any time we linger in mid-table the explanation is that the league is bad that year, but I feel like most every year a number of clubs underachieve, especially now that some of the old established clubs like Arsenal and Man U are struggling to rebuild.
100% this, our fanbase in general has become like this and unfortunately its become like this on here too, people always try to write off anything remotely positive, it's either because of us being s*** and just scraping some luck, the other team was bad, if we came up against better finishers we would have lost that, we are only where we are this season because everyone else is having a bad season.
We b**** and moan about everything and very rarely give the team credit when they achieve something, it's almost like people begrudge us doing well and its as though any minor success is robbing them of being that miserable NUFC fan.Truth is, people are addicted to feeling like they have it bad with us and look to blame it on anything NUFC related rather than accept the fact they are just being miserable arseholes for the sake of it.
People will then say, oh it's because of Ashley hes made us like this, but is it f***, most of these people are grown adults who just fail to act as such. We have a club, we are in te premier league, we are doing better than a lot of other good teams, just enjoy it for fucks sake, otherwise why even bother.

It's not usually this close between 6th/7th and hovering above the relegation zone, any team who puts a couple of wins together can end up in the European places. I even got a partial cash out on my top 6 bet...
