Reckon we could’ve done with the fans today
I dunno. I feel like our fans are great in underdog situations (see Arsenal 4-4) but more neutral in games we feel we should be winning. At home this season (with fans there) we have an average points per game of 1.75 against the big 6 but for the other teams it's 1.36. Considering the big 6 are the better teams, we do abnormally well against them and I wonder if the fans play a part in that.

Internet forums invite armchair fans at the best of times. It's even better when it's anonymous guest accounts. Well done on giving your opinions without hope for return!

If you think fans/pundits haven't talked about some players feeling the pressure of home crowds (Newcastle or otherwise) before this past week, I don't know what to tell you.

Can’t recall anyone saying we don’t need fans, it’s called a debate on whether some players may feel less pressure with no fans.

Our fans are no better / worse than any other set of fans.
Agreed that all fans are the same, though I think home environments are influenced by long-term performance trends. Fans will inevitably be more apathetic or tense after years of mediocre or poor performance, or alternatively, fans might be less patience of a team in poor form after collectively coming to expect better after years of success - but every club is susceptible to it, and Newcastle definitely wouldn't be unique.

What we are actually saying is we need fans but gagged so they can't moan
I'd support this. It should be like that hotline you can text if someones being abusive, you get one chance and if you slate Joelinton again you get gagged.

I wouldn't disagree, a lot of our fans are far too negative whether it be the decade of slating our strikers when they miss the one chance we create each game, the pillorying of Ayoze Perez for his supposedly poor end product despite no support, or the idiot who sits behind me who actually did a disgusted sigh as Ben Arfa was beating the first man on the way through against Bolton. We've watched a lot of horribly negative football so it is difficult to get up for a game, and it's been so long now that a lot of fans will barely remember how to. If given something to cheer for though we do.

I don't think it's influenced yesterdays game though, we started as tight as we ever are, created one chance, then played near 45 minutes against ten men. I don't think the lack of pressure from the crowd made a shred of difference. I'd be interested to see how the game would have gone had they not made a defensive hash of the first goal.
I tend to agree, both on the crowd, but also that it'd be foolish to assume the lack of one had to do with yesterday's result.

Though I would argue after the first 10-12 minutes, we actually looked pretty decent on the ball, or at least better than I think we have for most of the past couple seasons. Whether that would have led to end product without them going down to 10 men I have no idea.
