It’s irrelevant if the fees they got were inflated, they set the price and other clubs paid it. Nobody forced them too so it’s an entirely legitimate point. And for the most part all of their incoming transfers have been important players for the team and not too many duds.
And I'd add, it doesn't matter how much the players were worth, if the point is just that their owners have spent a lot of money, net spend is completely relevant, because it illustrates their owners in fact haven't been out of pocket very much. I'm sure Ashley himself would have laid 500m over 5 years if you could promise him he'd get back 430m over the same period.

Net spend is £74m, I’d say that’s pretty bloody impressive actually.
I hate the net spend argument with liverpool, it always ignores the fact they got some ridiculously over inflated fees, like the Coutinho one for a start, he was never in the range of a £150m player, they even got in the region of 20m a pop on players like ibe and Solanke, 30m for Benteke. 12m for Danny Ward (I'll wait whilst you google who the hell he is). If you look through the sales under klopp for some reason they were getting stupid money for some absolute trash. They have multiple youth players leaving for around 7-8m that you have never heard of before or after. They have one of the most skewed net spends going.

Over the last 10 years they make the top 10 in world football for player expenditure, spending just shy of 1 billion on players.

Just realised Klopp alone has spent nearly half a billion on players at Liverpool <puke>

I really hope our takeover goes through. Although FFP probably won't allow us to compete with that kind of spending.

TAA clearly has the potential versatility to play elsewhere on the pitch. Whether it be further forward or in the centre of midfield. I think if Liverpool had more options at RB we may have already seen a transition. As it stands currently though, he's definitely the first choice RB for England for me. It's a good problem to have though with James and Wan-Bisakka in the wings. Not to mention Trippier and Walker knocking about.
Has any team ever had as much strength in one single position as England have at RB?!
Could throw in Clyne and Max Aarons as well <roll>

I don't think it's close right now but I think Reece James has more potential than TAA at the moment. He's a more rounded player even if he isn't anywhere near as effective going forward as TAA right now.

I think TAA has a clear weakness defensively. He gets away with it for Liverpool but his positioning is horrendous and he's struggled for England a couple of times. It wouldn't surprise me if he moves further forward as technically he could play anywhere. Although the question is whether he'd find the space further up the field. As things stand the defenders and midfielders are largely occupied with the Liverpool attacking players so he gets more space to deliver his crosses and play his passes. If he's playing CM or RW then he'd likely be marked a lot tighter.
Hopefully he gets the opportunity to explore some versatility, he's obviously far more valuable in an attacking sense than defensively. Some of the assists him and Robertson get for Liverpool are insane. For England, either central or to the right in a diamond could be beneficial down the line. With someone much more defensive like AWB in the right back role to cover him if he goes marauding forward on adventures.

Fair enough he’s played more than I thought - but it’s not even remotely close between him and TAA at the moment.

He's played nearly 30 times for them this season including 17 starts at RB. He's definitely well on the way to becoming their first choice RB at only 20 years old.

Reece James has played about 5 games for Chelsea and isn’t even their number 1 RB.

TAA is part of the best defence in the league so can’t be that bad. I’d take him over AWB any day of the week.

Agree with that. But it could mean AWB or James get the England RB spot ahead of him.

The ‘30 years of hurt’ line is a bit rich for a club who’ve won almost 20 trophies in that time alone.
Never stopped them dreaming

Doesn't really need to be for them either. Best defence is a good offence tends to apply to them. Especially once they finally got a good keeper and CB.

So it begins. Obviously its fully deserved but this is going to be framed like its the greatest ever title win, Sky Sports already have a conference call full of ex liverpool.

Yeah he's miles better defensively, Trent is not a good defender at all.
