I don’t see why we didn’t at least keep him until after the Blackburn game to rotate in for Lascelles or Fernandez. It’s not like it would cup tie him in Spain. Of course there’s risk of injury but given Schar, Clarke and Dummett aren’t available seems a bit short sighted to leave ourselves with only 2 fit first team CBs. Unless we have a loan deal lined up for someone coming in soon.

He's a balling playing centre-back too. That is one of his strengths and it was great under Rafa that he and Schar could distribute the long ball as Rafa hated Shelvey. Brucie likes no nonsense centre backs that put their body on the line, stick it row Z and pass the ball 2ft to Shelvey. Expect another of those to arrive shortly.
Where has this "Rafa hates Shelvey" came from? He played him for the whole of the first half of his first Premier League season despite him being absolute **** and only brought Ki in when he was injured.

It was absolutely the correct decision to drop him when Schar and Lejeune were fit as they basically performed the same role without leaving a gaping hole in our midfield.

I'm also willing to forget how back Schar was in the summer. He'd missed a lot of time last season, like everyone was coming back from hiatus, played a lot of it out of position. Hopefully with a fresh season and some better health we can see more of what he offered in 2018-19 - which was a lot larger sample size than the restart.

I think I'd like to hear that quote in context. It looks daft written down but it does make vague sense when not coupled immediately after the bit before. We've crocked Lejeune a couple of times now, and while I fully agree he's our best CB he needs to get fit again so the loan move is a good one.
This. The technical, slower-paced and less physical La Liga will suit him well. Could come back stronger, fitter and more motivated than ever before! <ok>

Good luck Lejeune! <gent>

Alavés is good team to get minutes, in the past he played in the north doing well (Éibar). The manager know him pretty well since Girona.

I hope Big Flo come back stronger, I think he's got unfinished business in the Toon because the injuries... <erk>

Bruce wrote:"Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett still haven't fully recovered. Ciaran broke his leg and Paul has had an ongoing problem. They both had operations. Schär dislocated his shoulder & he's not right either. I think letting Flo out was the right thing to do."
You what? <wenger>

Good move for him to get game time. At the moment due to injury you'd have him behind Lascelles, Fede and most likely Clark (who Bruce likes very much) throw Schar in there too

Feels like a slightly odd decision but hopefully it’ll pay off long-term.

It's a shame about all the injuries he's had. Easily our best defender in my opinion. Hopefully the warmer weather and slower paced football in Spain will aid his recovery.

Lascelles- Lejeune was the best we've seen at CB since Colo got in team of the season. This loan is disappointing to see
