I'll never understand the thinking behind taking pens like Sancho and Saka did.

All you have to do is pick a side of the goal and hit it as hard as you can. Maguire's pen was the perfect example. Keeper has no chance and the only way you miss is if you don't hit the target. Odds are massively in the penalty takers favour.

As soon as you decide to take a pen like Saka's or Sancho's, you're reducing your odds of scoring massively and essentially making it a 50/50 as to if the keeper goes the right way or not. As with hardly no pace on the ball, not fully in the corner and at a perfect height for the keeper, it's always going to be saved if the keeper goes the right way.

Obviously it's a high pressure situation so maybe they were just too mentally weak and let nerves override proper judgement. Though if that was the case then why were they volunteering to take one anyway?

Rashford was the most frustrating, he's took loads of pens for Man Utd and he normally just smashes it as hard as he can into the corner. Yet he chose the euros final to decide he wanted to try and be Jorginio or Pogba for the night. It's absolute madness, why didn't he just stick with the technique he's been so successful at?

I would say why didn’t Sterling take a pen but after seeing some of his pens for city he’d have missed anyway!

Just like watching us second half, crying out for a sub on 60 minutes but waited it out and ended up going reactive after they scored.

Really disappointed it ended up coming down to Saka for last pen too, no way should a teenager be taking that. Well done Pickford though.

Not sure how I’m supposed to feel. Didn’t get into football properly until after Sir Bobby took over (classic 99er mag) so I’ve never experience a team I support being in the final of anything. These really are strange times we’re living in.
Pretty much this. I just about remember the late 90s FA Cup finals and was at Wembley to watch Gateshead (who I love) lose to Cambridge in the conference playoff final but even as devastating as it was there was "always next season".

Don't think 5 at the back will work the way it did against Germany. Probably leave us light in midfield against Jorginho and Veratti
