Don't get me wrong, I hate that term too - I was just trying to use the common vernacular. It's just not good for the game for everyone to be so lazy and risk adverse that they resort to pulling back any player with even a hint of open field ahead of them. And agreed that the yellow cards given today clearly don't disincentivize players enough.
Oh yeah that’s definitely the term, just annoys me when pundits or commentators say it and brush it off - it’s the kind of thing you do in the schoolyard to the kid who’s miles better than everyone else at football. You can’t catch or match him so just pull them back or something. Nothing professional about it!
You can tell something about the commentators when some prefer to call them cynical fouls. Much prefer that to "professional fouls" - which comes off as commending them for a job well done.

Not just fouls that get my goat, professional diving too. I thought some of the diving from the Watford team when we played them recently was shocking, some in plain site of the Ref and he did nothing to stop it. Some of the dives I'm surprised they didn't do a triple pike on the way down.

Yeah it annoys me, professional fouls should lead to a player being put in the sin bin for 5 mins to try and clamp down on it. It’s not a “professional foul”, if you pull someone back to stop a counter attack it’s cheating. The amount of time in each game where the ball is out of play or time is being wasted is also ridiculous. Was it the AFCON final where the ball was actually in play for something like 40 mins of the 90?!

I know people complained about the ref, and maybe justifiably so. But the number of "professional fouls" yesterday was ridiculous. I get why both sides were trying to shut down counter attacks before they happened, but it felt like a modern NBA game with players wrapping up players in transition to the detriment of entertainment. Obviously do what it takes to win, but damn if it didn't slow play up and reduce the opportunities for excitement.

Shame it's just came out there that Trip has a broken bone in his foot. That is a big worry as he's not just a great player but leader too.

I thought Burn looked great on all of the aerial challenges. Not gonna be many strikers beat him in the air. I thought once Trip went off the team seemed to go to seed a bit?
Regardless of whether Lascelles is fit he should be in the team going forward.

Garth with another cracking team of the week this week:

No Trippier even though he scored <yikes>, and Dan Burn at LB.

Scrappy game, good result. HWTL.... Even though it was scrappy, a win was worth my 360 mile round trip.
Wowzers. Guessing you were driving from around Leicester then?...or Dundee?
Ayrshire, went East Coast an stopped in to see my Mam at Alnwick on the way down and back up the West Coast on way back to Irvine.

So apparently he was stamped on or at least had a villa player come down on his foot, so the issue is on the top of the foot which I think gives a better outlook, if there is any damage then surely it would heal faster with it not really being a load bearing area, if it's bruising then hopefully he's back for West Ham. Worst case is probably a metatarsal fracture or break.

Yeah The Heed had a player not long ago who was in one and played 3 days later. Fingers crossed basically
I fractured my ankle last year and tore ligaments and they gave me a boot. Had to wear it for 7 weeks . Hopefully it’s not a fracture
Yep, just got to play the waiting game now. Luckily with Burn and Targett in, the backline has still been significantly strengthened, even though we will lose Trips going forward.

Always put them on as precaution, I remember not too long ago Willock was pictured in one couple of days before a game and he ended up playing

Brilliant!!! And also phew!!! A couple of months ago we have lost that.
This. Good first half and solid professional display in the second even though Villa deserved at least a goal as they were the better side in the second. We struggled badly after Trippier came off we looked very vulnerable but thankfully we grinded it out to the a massive three points. We're on a roll now, confidence and momentum is building we got to keep this going. Next 5 games we should be aiming to get anywhere between 7 (minimum) - 12 points (that would be incredible)

West Ham (a) - I'm not sure if we'll win but could see us snatching a point. 0-1 point
Brentford (a) - losable game but at the same time could see us grinding a win here. 0-1 point
Brighton (h) - similar to above but our home record is looking very solid right now so should be looking to get 3 points. 1-3 point
Chelsea (a) - only game I see as very likely to lose. Bonus if we get anything. 0 point
Crystal Palace (h) - should be aiming for three. 3 points

If we can win our home games and snatch a point or 2 from the away games that'll be amazing. <diva> <awe>
all wins. finish on 66 points, CL qualification

The speed at which he was back at SJP id assume it's nothing too bad, but deff fingers crossed on it, he's been instrumental to our recent form.

Trippier back at SJP on crutches and with a leg protector on. Hopefully just precautionary.
