Good point, Longstaff makes them cracking 3rd man lung-busting runs and gets into great positions but his finishing isn't very good but if he can improve that he can definitely hit double figures in a season. I feel like Miley will gel into being that type of Gerrard/Lampard goal scoring midfield player mixed with Carrick's footballing IQ and technical ability in the future. We gonna miss Big Joe's physical presence and power in the middle though but hopefully some of the youngsters step up (White, Traves, etc) and we get Willock/Anderson back soon. Shame it's looking unlikely we're going to get anybody in but a DM and ST on loan for the rest of the reason would have been ideal. <urgh>
Bloody hell, no pressure. Might as well throw in Gascoigne's maverick creativity to top it off...
And Pirlo's beard.

Maybe he can mentor Longstaff in how to finish <laugh>

Longstaff often does a very important role for us, but with the chances he gets he should be pushing for 10 goals a season - he always seems to pop up in good positions but rarely finishes the chances.

Yeah, seems like no incomings and no outgoings (other than Manquillo who didn't play anyway).

I saw that Anderson was back in training (not sure how intense, but he was kicking balls) so hopefully he'll be back in the coming weeks with Willock and Barnes.

Hard to believe that Miley is only 17 when you see how he plays, and especially the runs he was making last night. His final ball was often wayward or didn't hit anyone, but to be doing what he's doing at 17 in the middle of a PL pitch is superb.

Yeah.. worst case if we lose Gordon to a ban / injury we can play Schar as a false no.9 he at least he knows were the net is <whistle>

True. Also considering we now have 0 strikers, looks like Miggy on the left and Gordon up front for Luton.

Agree on the phone lights, cringe. It's not an Adele concert.

Villa Park is alright, been there 4-5 times but not for a few years now. I like McCoist as a commentator.

Very late report from me (since I got home at 3am and am knackered), but I'm now 2 for 2 this season for stupid midweek late away kickoffs so they should give me tickets...

Wasn't expecting anything, but to return to the superb pressing game was brilliant and exactly how we should be playing for 60 minutes. We did flag though as usual and we're crying out for subs, the last 20 minutes were awful and we were lucky with that tight offside flag. Burn looked shattered as did Trippier, both could have gone (or been shuffled as Burn did when Tino came on) and it does make you wonder why we let Manquillo go if he's fit? We should be being proactive, not reacting really late to their scary attacking subs.

Murphy looked good again, and I'll echo a few in saying he was never as bad as some thought and even in his "bad" spell he was still quite productive at the level we were at, but I never thought he'd get as good as he is. I always thought he'd be one of the first casualties of the takeover, but he's earned his spot and he's so bloody likeable.

Defensively excellent throughout until tiredness kicked in, and Schar continues to be our best value for money signing ever. Few key saves from Dubravka too.

Villa Park a nice old fashioned ground, to the extent that the commentary gantry was at the back of the away fans. We arrived so stupidly early we just missed out on a photo with Ally McCoist who we thought was just a fan getting a photo until he climbed up the ladder. At full time though he returned with Townsend and Le Saux, Townsend getting audibly annoyed that he was going to be chatting to us all night before they went back up to find an alternative route (or hide?).

Image

Hope we never adopt the fire and "phone light show" though. Cringeworthy.

Yep - tho tbf I'd rather lose them for Arsenal away than for some of our more winnable home games.
They reset again in another 10 games apparently. I have 100% faith in Bruno going 10 games with no bookings.
<laugh>

You'd get very long odds if you put a bet on that! Gordon has zero chance either tbf!

Ideally they get through Luton/Forest/Bournemouth and if we pick up 7-9 points we'll be back in a decent position for the run in.

Do the bans transfer to FA Cup games? After Bournemouth we play Blackburn.

We are going to end up playing Arsenal away with no Bruno or Gordon aren't we.

Ah yeah, that's how it's looking! Gordon is only 1 yellow away from a 2-game ban now also. His booking last night was a bit needless.

Also, he is just happy to be in the team. It's hard to find a player being ok to know he's on the bench when the strongest first 11 is out but with our injuries we need them!

As I like to say; I’ve always rated Murphy since we signed him even when the “he’s s***” mob were out in full force when he was younger. Since Howe came in he has been excellent whenever called upon, very pleased for him. Most of our players disappear without trace after a loan move but he’s never been better after the loan he had a few seasons back.

We look a much more balanced outfit with Murphy on the right in placebof Almiron ( even though the former isn't fully fit)

He's a more intelligent and clinical player- good shot , makes the right decisions.

Why we're not committing to Livramento at LB is beyond me .

This, good to see Murphy back even though he isn't fully fit gives us a nice balance, width, directness, pace and I prefer him over Miggy tbh. Once we get Barnes back we'll have 2 quality wingers in each wide position rotating (RW/LW) . Cracking win and big team perforemence. This is the Newcastle we all loved last season with the high intensity press and fast direct attacks. This season due to inconsistency/lack of form, fatigue, injuries and being in Europe has hindered us but to be 7th at this stage is still good and if we can build momentum and a run of form with our injured players coming back we could sneak into the top 4th if Villa/Spurs start messing up.. either way if we end top 6/7 I'll be proud. We can go invest and recruit big in the summer and go for the top 4 again. <diva>

Just seen results good win,

What happened Isak?

Serious?
However said in post-match interview that it seems to be a groin issue but doesn't look serious. No timeframe given though...
