Maxys treble backward somersault goal celebration makes barnes' bow and arrow routine look a bit...what's the word....camp?
But as exciting as a player he was, aswell as being funny when he said "i couldn't give a f**k!" live on radio newcastle, Barnes is more of a team player and offers goals and assists as opposed to trying to be the court jester every time.
Barnes certainly offers a bigger goalscoring threat but Maxi created a hell of a lot more than Barnes does.
Supermac being sold to arsenal in "76, was a time I was heartbroken, watching him on MOTD playing for them was like seeing my lass with a new boyfriend, absolutely devastated I had posters of Supermac taped on my walls,..... But time is the only healer, and obviously now I feel a bit daft for allowing the sale of Supermac to effect me so profoundly but what can I say, I was young and it's just how I felt, thing is there's not many other players we've sold over the years that have affected me in the same way.... Maxi leaving was way disappointing, the spurs game just after the takeover he seriously was the only one trying the crowd were on their feet soon as he received the ball and burst forward trying to make things happen.... Really exciting player to watch but mostly no end product but I still have my toon shirt with his name on the back so he won't be forgotten in wor hoose.
