I think you might be underestimating how big the Euros are to European teams, they aren't regarded enormously lower than the World Cup.
Oh I'm just referencing the time until the next WC because it's the upcoming tournament, I definitely realize the Euros are of similar importance to most people involved. Either way, I only mean to suggest that if you lose confidence in your international manager to do the job, you'd best move on because tournaments only come over couple years, and especially with England, any incoming manager will know the strengths (and weaknesses) of the squad - and I think Southgate is proving right now that you don't simply get the best performance from your players because you've overseen them for a long time.

Alternatively, it's 4 years until the next World Cup. So if you're confident the team is going to underachieve under his management, you don't want to waste a World Cup and have to wait 3.5 years for the next opportunity to get it right.
I think you'd have to be making a very bold prediction to be confident we'd underachieve given the last two tournaments. You can maybe criticise the performances, but his record until now is superb.
Oh I'm not necessarily confident he will, but if you're a decision maker and you have lost confidence in him, you can't simply wave it away because the WC is soon, because the next one doesn't come along for a long time and the squad can look a lot different by then.

Daft to change now given a World Cup in 5 months though. Let him have the tournament, then whoever comes next only has 18 months til the next Euros anyway.

I don't necessarily want him gone before the world cup, I just hope that this winter is his last as England manager.

There’s no way he’ll go before the World Cup. He’s done well on paper in his time at England and seems to have credit in the bank in all areas. Tactically I think he’s rubbish, but he ticks the nice guy box so doesn’t really get questioned.

His time has run its course. Maybe he did a good job raising morale and leveraging his relationships with the players who've come through the youth level, but the shine of that wears off and you need a manager who knows how to get the best out of the squad and prepare/strategize for the opposition - and he doesn't seem equipped to do either.

The problem with international managers is it's so easy to blag your way through, the teams usually take care of themselves, with England, we always have decent players around and that will get you so far, it's moments like this that really show the managers ability, we are absolutely awful and Southgate doesn't have a clue about what to do other than hope some kind of form kicks in. He's been papering over the cracks for far too long, the world cup run we had a lot of good luck with the fixtures and with a decent manager we would have made the final. We were much better in the Euros admittedly, but again with a decent manager we beat Italy.
It's never going to happen but I think the best manager for us would be an arsehole like Mourinho.

Have to say Hungary's pressing was phenomenal and they took their chances brilliantly. Played England off the park. Big wake up call!

I'm half Scottish and wish nothing but injury and bad luck on their football team <whistle>
I wish the same on them but that's because my mother-in-law was Scottish!
🤣

Ffs really chaps, come on……
Northumberland’s more Scottish than some other parts of Scotland. They say a Geordie is just a Scotsman but with his heid bashed in.
Great affinity there

All due respect to Ukraine and Austria, but could be quite a potential showdown final between Wales and Scotland.
I’m sure we’ve many more sheep than them so pretty confident for Scotland all told

Born in Scotland. Mum is Scottish. Dad is English. Moved away when I was 18 months old and been back for the occasional holiday and wedding.

I failed GCSE maths 5 times but that makes me 82% Scottish.

No clan as one of my ancestors became a f***ing Quaker and got us kicked out. Only thing that ever did for me was get a discount at a boarding school.
