Donyell Malen been left out of Villas champions league squad as they could only register 3 new players and went for Rashford, Asensio and Disasi.

Malen said he chose to go to Villa due to them being in Champions League <laugh>
Yikes - he'll still enjoy those nights out on the continent...from the stands. They better enjoy it now too since they won't be repeating in 2025-26.

Yeah Lewis definitely never shown anything really, I think he had a half decent debut from memory? As for Murphy, I think I've got my time lines mixed up a bit, and it was before Howe that he was farmed out on loan and didn't do much with it.

Edit: Apparently Nigeria are looking to try and convince Murphy to play for them, that could be interesting.
Wasnt that daft Farke saying he wouldn't sell Lewis for £100m if it was up to him?? must been on drugs. About as much use as a chocolate watch, totally zero awareness of whats happening in behind needs wing mirrors
Almost as bad as Palace saying they wouldn't accept 100m for their manager who has them flying high in 12th.

I wouldn't have said he was quite there. Murphy would still get occasional play time initially. Whereas I don't think Hayden has even gotten on the pitch under Howe. And on the super rare occasion Lewis got chances he either stank up the place, or got injured

(At least that's my recollection. Might be wrong, CBA to look up their minutes)

At one point Murphy was in the same camp as Lewis and Hayden. Just took a little longer with him, but he's definitely proven he can mix it at this level

It is strange how Howe has managed to improve almost everyone, just one or two outliers (Lewis, Hayden).
I think it gets to a point that if they just aren't good enough then there isn't much he can do.

Wierd brazillian adventure ending in an ankle injury. We've registered him in the squad along with the five goalkeepers. Such a small squad haha

I wonder whether we'll see Isak get that new contract before the end of the season? Can't use the PSR excuse as the Kelly/Almiron deals inject a bunch of headroom

Juve fans not happy that they sold Huijsen for £15m and have bought Kelly for £20m (not that the social media fan base represents all fans…).

Centre mid: absolutely fine, Miley could/should be getting more game time and Longstaff can do a job. Hope Willock rediscovers some form.

It might be fine, but I think selling Willock/Longstaff and bringing in Angel Gomes on a free transfer would be a shrewd move. Would net us additional funds and improve the midfield imo. Was impressed with him in an England shirt when he was in Lee Carsleys squad
I wouldn’t quibble at that at all - but equally if we start next season with the current set of midfielders I’ll be more than happy.

Think we’ve done really well to get £30m for Kelly and Almiron. We’ve not been great sellers so this is a step in the right direction.

Tel going to Spuds on loan, no obligation though.

And as much as I agree about not settling for the quality of player we want, they need to leverage scouting to have a wider net of suitable targets, and complement expensive ones like Isak with some affordable ones from other leagues. Building up the transfer kitty hardly selling anyone and splurging it all on players from our PL competitors leaves you going windows without those investments (it would seem).

If two, let alone all three, put of Bruno, Gordon and Isak (especially Isak) leave it would be an absolute disaster of a window.

As for the summer, if we don't do any significant business it will be a travesty. I think we will though, with the three year psr cycle lapsing from the first big spend window. The cl amd added as money banked on the prior financial year, and potentially the Kelly fee too.
Agree 100% with this.

There is no excuse not to make significant improvements this summer. With the extra income you mention, the big signings from 3 years ago falling off the PSR cycle (very little spend since), Kelly money, Almiron money, likely some Trippier money in summer (and wages saved), Wilson's wages should be off the books too come 01st July we should be in a position to invest well (and we'll need to...). If not then Howe can really say he's been hung out to dry.

In summer we'll have / need:

Goalkeeper: okay if Pope and Dubravka stay, though not out of the question that Dubs is sold / goes and we sign a new #1. Not a priority though unless one leaves.

Right back: Tino = Krafth cover. Trippier likely to leave so need a cover RB really.

Centre back: Botman, Schar and Burn all stay. Need a right sided CB to replace Schar ultimately. Lascelles likely released.

Left back: Hall with Targett as back-up, could do with left back cover / rotation if Targett has no future.

Centre mid: absolutely fine, Miley could/should be getting more game time and Longstaff can do a job. Hope Willock rediscovers some form.

Left wing: fine if Barnes stays.

Right wing: Been our #1 target for years now, the bulk of spend should be here. Murphy a great rotation option.

Striker: Howe clearly doesn't think Osula is close to being ready and with Wilson leaving we 100% need a new striker.

Top 3 priorities for me should be:

- Right winger
- striker
- centre back

Nice to haves will be fullback cover.
I mean that sounds good but I suspect Bruno will leave. Possibility Isak/Gordon could force it too if we aren't in CL.

A big issue has been we haven't had any players to sell, or in Trippier's case we missed the window.

Having to find a striker on our budget would be difficult
