Yeah I really don't care much either way on Gnonto.

I do think Elanga is a good player, if those rumours are true I'd rather have him.

Reports we are in for Wilfried Gnonto at Leeds. RW that can play through the middle, so makes sense. Although there's a reason he's about to start his second season in the championship, not exactly setting the world alight. If we have the budget and the ability for a top class signing, like an Isak or a Tonali, then it has to be at RW surely. A long term right sided CB is needed, but I wouldn't say the priority right now.
Think he's Everton bound and our name was just being used by agents.

Yeah, I think LB is well covered, you can add Tino and Trippier as potential cover too.

Looks that CB is big priority with lots of talk about Thiaw.

Reports saying we are looking at another forward, so after that a RW too hopefully.

CB, LB, RW and striker please Darren
I've seen a few shouts for a Left Back.

Do we really need one with Hall & Kelly with Targett and even Burn who can play backup?

And Jamal Lewis :bandit:

Shifting players really helps if they are on big wages. Miggy, Dubravka will be to some extent. Lewis and Murphy I'd guess are cheap relatively speaking
But makes it very difficult if the player isn't particularly good e.g. Hendrick was on over £50k a week but no Championship side would (understandably) pay that. It's why we've struggled to move a lot of the Ashley-era players on as they're on decent money relative to their ability e.g. Hayden, Fraser.

Now Euros are over be interesting to see what happens now in terms of ins and outs

Expect to see
Dubravka
Targett
Almiron
Lewis

Most likely
Wilson
Trippier?
Murphy??

Malick Thiaw from AC Milan I've heard alot of chat about
Targett's wages will be a massive issue if we try to shift him. Can see him staying for that reason alone, but if he gets fit (what the f*** was wrong with him last season?!) he's a good backup.

Murphy 100% stays, Howe loves him and he's generally done alright and a solid enough squad player.

Agree on Miggy, Dubravka (probably our easiest player to sell), Lewis (wages will be high again, as he'd only get a Championship move).

I'm not convinced communication is much better, despite the initial positivity and on field progress the Supporters Trust have been less than impressed with engagement. Ticketing has been pretty poor too, from the league cup final fiasco to unlimited memberships and lack of transparency on ticket availability.

Just on that note, do we think we've struggled to find opponents for pre season this year? The "Sela Cup" looks a bit s*** compared to last year.
That was my impression to (re: communication), and it feels like the type of organization commitment that needs an executive champion to push for transparency, and then also a face for it. It's among the reasons I've always feared the investment being driven by a national investment fund.

I just keep coming back to who to credit for the improvements at the club? I think we can agree there's been improved professionalism, communication, investment (infrastructure, playing staff, non-playing staff), hiring, marketing, coaching, etc. And with now the DOF and most visible and vocal members of ownership gone, it's hard to assess how much of that has been taken with them, vs. how much is a credit to others, vs. how much of the system has been put in place to continue improvement going forward.

For me you have to build from where you are at, financially I 100% agree we can't really fast track that, but in terms of on the pitch you have to build forward from your last season, I think last year there was way too much of an acceptance that we would drop off, also I think the signings left a lot to be desired, i think we wasted money last year, Barnes, not knocking him as a player but we had just spent £40m on his position the previous window, he wasn't a vital signing. I think in the long term Livramento is a great signing but again you can argue he wasn't really a vital signing at the time.
4 of our recruits barely saw the pitch, Tonali needed more due diligence, Hall & Livramento were clearly not trusted as starting players, Barnes injury issues granted were unavoidable, but again overlooked when fit.

For me the last year was definitely underperformance across the board from club.

Don’t disagree with a lot of the comments on how some things could be done better. Tho sometimes fewer come are a good thing too so maybe we can’t have everything. There wasn’t a peep about this Mitchell guy, we’ve made signings out of the blue too - both positive and ways of doing business.

I think on field a lot of fans have unrealistic expectations on where we should be right now. Yes it has been 3 years, but that’s not a huge amount of time to undo 14 years of total neglect of every aspect of the club. That is as a huge thing to turn around, and they’ve largely achieved that. Within the constraints of finances we’ve gone from a relegation squad to one expected to qualify for Europe, and which would have done again last season had it not been for a freak cup final result meaning p7 didn’t get European football (which rarely ever happens). A lot of our fans need to stop thinking that we should be challenging for the league, stupid as it sounds I think a lot assume that after a mere 3 years that should be what’s happening.

I always said from the start that I'd judge the ownership on the football side. I think the first 2 years were great, this last year has probably been lacking imo.

Right now we need to be swift in appointing a figurehead for the club with the power to have the final say, for me it seemed a bit too much of having to wait for PIF to sign off on most things. It's great having Staveley and Co being the faces but it's never felt like they had much power in terms of the big decisions.

This may sound a bit down mood, but this is kinda why I always question why people big-up us as such a great project that everyone should want to be a part of. We've now seen a lot of front office turnover, so that stability or expertise can be back into question, and people claim we have "the richest owner", but how much PIF wants to spend and how much sustainability policies allow them to spend limits that. On field and off field performance has been largely encouraging, but it hasn't set us apart from the best of the best (of yet), so I think we should continue managing expectations.

Which this forum generally does of course - but I think there are still more unanswered questions of what this club is and will be than others let on.

It all feels very weird are the moment within the club, the lack of communication really doesn't help, the PSR issue not addressed by the club and this news breaking with every Journo under the sun reporting it and not a peep from the club once again.

She's had a fair few court cases thrown at her recently. Any chance this is a way to protect the club in regards to any legal trouble going on?

Either way it's a little sad if it's a forced sale, despite whatever mistakes the board has made, she's one of the main reasons Ashley is out and we are looking up rather than down these days.
