Yeah and I agree with you there, he definitely has a clanger in him. I personally feel he's won more with the saves than lost with the mistakes. It's not the best algorithm, but we are certainly better off having him than not.
Plus, when a keeper is under pressure as often as he is, with so many chances, so little possession and frequent defensive blunders, you're bound to make a few more mistakes than your peers.
Exactly. For years now we have effectively been playing defence versus attack, with a reliance on counter attacking to get our goals. Therefore our goalkeeper and defenders have an increased volume of chances to defend against and should be given some leeway over mistakes.

I find it ironic that our fans are all to keen to give attackers an excuse for lack of goals based on scarcity of attacking opportunities but fail to give defenders the same benefit when it comes to defending. Put simply the more you have to do the more likely you are to get it wrong from time to time.

For what it's worth Dubravka made Garth Crooks' team of the week.

He does deserve the praise for making the saves, 100% agree with you. But if we're praising him for doing well he also deserves criticism for his errors.

Remember when finishing 5th and just outside of the CL spots was seen as disappointing in the early 2000s <awe>

Yep. Chelsea are inconsistent, I think we can get a draw next weekend.

Good to see villa getting pummelled. We’ve still got Villa, Burnley, Norwich and West Ham to come to SJP. Regardless of our other games, win those and we’re as good as safe.

Excellent point considering 6 of the 7 teams below us lost this weekend, Watford being the only winners, and the goal difference of a few taking a bit of a hammering.

Wolves are quite clever what they do with their away ‘end’. It runs down the entire length of pitch on the lower tier of one of the stands. Because away fans are spread out long and thin essentially it is harder to get an atmosphere going. Half the time you’ve got fans at one in trying to get one song going, fans in the middle another and fans down the other hand trying a third song.

I think Dubravka would benefit from the most expensive defender of all time being sat in front of him. You argue he deserves stick because he's make more mistakes leading to goals, I argue he deserves praise for making more saves than any others. He's not world class, but he has his moments. For my money, he'd be a lot better with a better defense in front of him. Personally I feel he's given more to us than he's lost with errors. We certainly aren't going to get any better. He was immense today, we definitely didn't deserve a point.

Happy with a point despite us gifting them their equaliser from another defensive mistake.

Dubravka was excellent (once again showing he saves us far more points than he costs us), and Almiron very good too. He’s looking far more confident now he’s scored a few goals and it’ll be great when ASM is back on the other side. Thought Atsu ran a lot but wasn’t great, hayden deputised at RWB quite well defensively.

Now I’m not one of the twats who stands shouting abuse at our own players, but Joelinton was abysmal. Whether he has talent or not he was either knackered or disinterested today and seemingly put in zero effort. Bruce should have subbed him far sooner than he did, Carroll did more in 15 mins than Joelinton did all afternoon.
I agree with all of this pretty much. Dubravka is brilliant, and it annoys me that he gets stick. Yeah he has had a couple of clangers, but it happens. As you said, he's definitely won us more points than lost. I hope they don't rush ASM back, which they will. Him back in the side would be beneficial. Joelinton is gash. He's looked half decent playing out wide or behind the striker, where he played before we signed him. He's clearly not a 40m forward so far. I'm concerned that Gayle's injury might rule out his sale, and hence a transfer fee to fund someone else. Lookman and that nasty bastard at Rangers seems to have been the most linked.

A good point but rotten luck with the injuries.
