Re: MIDWEEK FOOTBALL - 7/9 JULY 2020

Credit to Southampton for turning the club back around in the past year. They really looked to have a hit a wall, with fewer transfers coming off, changes in the front office and management, no prominent prospects like the ones they kept producing, but here they are safe for another season and reviv...

Re: Match day - Man City v Newcastle United

100% City have won 8 games this season by 4 goals or more. They are capable of doing that to any team on a good day. Funny thing is you look at the last 4 PL games against City we played the exact same system and the stats in terms of possession and chances are almost the same. The whole argument t...

Re: IFAB Set to Continue with 5 Subs Rule for 2020/21 Season

I'd still rather young players be loaned out or get real development time somewhere than wait for a bit part substitution once in a while. And I question how often risk adverse managers would choose to use an additional two youth subs if they wouldn't trust them with one of the 3 traditional subs?

Re: MIDWEEK FOOTBALL - 7/9 JULY 2020

Todd Cantwell seems the most attractive player, with the benefit of the whole season. Especially given him only being 22. It's the hair. He's gorgeous. I just knew I was opening myself up to that <laugh> . If there was one player other teams would want to buy most from them, I'd assume it's him. I ...

Re: Match day - Man City v Newcastle United

^^^^ Pretty much this. No one did themselves any favours out there and as for Bruce not to get any energy and snap into that performance, that’s on him. FWIW that’s the kind of surrender and meek effort and result that sticks. Overall not a surprising defeat, but what’s embarrassing , not a hint or...

Re: MIDWEEK FOOTBALL - 7/9 JULY 2020

Norwich as good as down. That 3-2 win against City seems a lifetime ago now . So does everyone getting excited about Pukki. He's scored 11 goals this season which isn't bad at all, but 6 of them were scored by the 14th September. Todd Cantwell seems the most attractive player, with the benefit of t...

Re: Matty Longstaff's contract conundrum

yeah tbf he needs to take whatever he thinks is the best option for his career, football is a cutthroat business and no one will do him any favours. Likewise the club shouldnt be offering over the odds for him as he's only played a dozen games for us, and risk being stuck with another Ranger Absolu...

Re: Match day - Man City v Newcastle United

We should just rest anyone that's played a lot of minutes, throw in a bunch of fresh players and just go at them, if we get spanked by 4 or 5 so be it. We pick up again at weekend with a fresh first team. With the number of current injuries, do we even have a bunch of fresh players? And won't someb...

Re: Matty Longstaff's contract conundrum

The jealousy argument is complete bollocks, take the Max Meyer reference above, its seen as ridiculous because the wage doesn't fall in line with productivity, if he or Matty were playing every game and contributing key goals and assists every week we wouldn't even need to debate this as nothing wo...

Re: Matty Longstaff's contract conundrum

sounds like he's been given a more than reasonable contract offer, at 20k + a 10k bonus if he starts, if rumours are to be believed. Considering he's only played 12 games for the senior team, he's got ideas above his station Why does everyone assume it's about money? It could be contract length or ...

Re: WEEKEND FOOTBALL - 4/6 JULY 2020

I’d love to see Southgate at Spurs, he’ll be awful. Howe is too tactically naive for the England job I think. Done great to keep Bournemouth up all these years but even before this season they’re so hit and miss, they’d either win 3-0 or lose 3-0...there rarely seemed to be an inbetween. I don't th...

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v West Ham

Is it fair to say it was Lascelles' man that scored both goals? I want to like him, he seems a good leader in the dressing room, but still often feel like he's not improving like I'd hoped. I can usually get over his terrible ball skills, but he makes a lot of mistakes when defending too. I’d go Sc...

Re: WEEKEND FOOTBALL - 4/6 JULY 2020

I like Bournemouth and I think Eddie Howe is a good manager but serious questions needs to be asked about that. 1 goal in 27 appearances for Liverpool for Solanke, dodgier business than Joelinton. Agreed, he’s done a good job keeping them in the PL for 5 years. He has been backed financially in tha...

Re: Importance of ASM

The lad has all the attributes to be world class. I think bruce has done a good job with him, seems to have instilled a greater sense of teamwork in him. When he first came there was a lot of criticism of him dribbling to nowhere ad lacking the final ball. He now seems so much more aware of play an...

Re: What's the verdict on VAR?

Have to stick with it. You can't have millions of people watching wrong decisions in slow motion 4K replay at home while officials are left without tools to get decisions right on the field. I agree that the execution has been really poor, which is pretty inexcusable considering how many leagues had...

To be fair, KSA are probably in with a good shout for the Top 4! <roll> <laugh> I think the UK's history of colonisation and slave trading puts us safely in the top 4 too <laugh> Oh well if we're going all time table, that totally changes things! Absolutely, England was a long-time title challenger...

Re: New squad after potential takeover

I just wish this takeover would go through so we can tie our best players down. With Ashley still here Im always nervous the likes of Saint Max and Alimron will get sold. I'd feel a little more confident, but if you look around Europe it doesn't matter how big and rich a club you are, the stars sti...
