Re: Euro 2024 chat

And it's not even as if those wingers are frail at defending - that's what made his approach so frustrating. The team cried out for more width and direct pacey play, and his best options to provide that were still well-balanced players, especially in the case of Gordon who he showed no trust in.

Rafa Benítez appreciation post.

With Toon legend Jesus Gamez <laugh>

I see Merino is linked with Arsenal, class player. Think he was a Rafa signing.
He was a Rafa signing and sale (leveraging an affordable release clause).

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

I'm not convinced communication is much better, despite the initial positivity and on field progress the Supporters Trust have been less than impressed with engagement. Ticketing has been pretty poor too, from the league cup final fiasco to unlimited memberships and lack of transparency on ticket a...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

I just keep coming back to who to credit for the improvements at the club? I think we can agree there's been improved professionalism, communication, investment (infrastructure, playing staff, non-playing staff), hiring, marketing, coaching, etc. And with now the DOF and most visible and vocal membe...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

This may sound a bit down mood, but this is kinda why I always question why people big-up us as such a great project that everyone should want to be a part of. We've now seen a lot of front office turnover, so that stability or expertise can be back into question, and people claim we have "the riche...

Re: Euro 2024 chat

It's all rather ironic that he's had more consistent tournament results than any recent period. Which I don't say as a compliment, but it's certainly boosted his resolve to continue leaning into his preferred approach. What it highlights is that fans will ultimately almost always care more about how...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Setting aside the actual finances of it, I think it's a shame to lose actual faces representing ownership, who clearly had some emotional investment (women's team or otherwise), and instead likely have more involvement from people just representing an investment fund.

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Can he play on the right? I wouldn't necessarily recommend he play as a winger, but he can play effectively in a front 2 (Marsch is playing a 4-2-2-2 for Copa), or as a 9 or 10, dropping deeper for build up play, or playing off the back shoulder to get in behind. He wouldn't create goals out of not...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Benny's talking about me! I'm keeping the dream alive. If so, the club better hope he doesn't contribute to us upsetting Argentina tonight, or his price would be going up.

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

I wonder why very few Italians have come to / fully flourished in the PL. Their own good league? The same can generally be said for German and Spanish players too (or English for that matter), who tend to play domestically until a club comes calling with such dramatically better salaries they can't...

OK I assumed you meant the player was from US <laugh>

Still have no idea what you're on about though
I think the joke was just that with the player's last name being Lacroix, we could target them as a valuable sponsor in the US. <scratch>

Evidently I've consumed too much US internet
Don't get me wrong, my family has consumed way too much of the stuff - it's far superior to most bubbly water drinks out there - I just didn't know where it was from.

Miley having surgery on his back, recovery time is around 12 weeks.
Is this considered a start of new 24-25 bad luck? Or the last example of 23-24 bad luck?

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Just think of the potential synergies with the US audience and their beloved bubbly water ? Lacroix is French sorry I'm confused I had to look it up, but it actually is American, and started in La Crosse, Wisconsin, meant to be pronounced like the St. Croix river between Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

I like that schouten in DM for netherlands. Tidy, and wants to play the ball forwards. With psv, so it's possible and shouldn't break the bank. For centre mid, with Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton, Willock, Miley and Longstaff, surely one would have to go before bringing in another Central Midfielder....

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

50M Euros isn't it? The question looming over him has been whether he'll continue to show the Basque loyalty and want to stay as a long-serving player like his brother. Having won their first trophy in ages it remains to be seen whether that'll embolden him to stay and win more or feel like he can ...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

I'd love to see Nico Williams come in, I know he predominantly plays left side but he can play on the right, I'd have him and Gordon interchange through a game to give us a different dimension, potentially include Isak in that too. Some talk he may have a reasonable release clause too. 50M Euros is...

If it's OK for the referees to wear orange shirts then why couldn't the Dutch have played in their normal orange and the referees worn green or black tops?
The away navy strips haven't sold in the shops well enough - they needed a boost.

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Maybe it wouldn't have made a financial difference, but I could have done without the improved contract extensions that got dolled out to veteran players who hardly got a sniff of the grass the past 2 seasons. I'd also rather we show more interest in upside players from other continents than pay the...
