Re: Dan Ashworth confirmed as gardening director
What's changed this past week? I kinda figured we were in the quiet gardening leave phase. And meh, dude took what I assume is a higher paying job at a bigger club - having spent more than a year in his current role. Doesn't strike me as worth getting wound up about - it's just a job after all, as d...

Huh, shame. Not that I've ever had long hair or an on-trend haircut before.

Re: Football Titbits
That's what I was doing to say, what is it, 2015? The only people left with them are South American footballers, the general populous have moved on, and the most egregious looks are bowl cuts with frosted tips from people who never lived through the late 90s.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Palace
There's nothing I hate more than an unchanged side that gets rolled over. If this season has taught anything is the need for consistent rotation irrespective of a past match's performance - especially if you're not going to demonstrate strong and customized tactics. Hindsight yada yada, reward playe...

Great interview with Anthony Gordon on The Overlap. Really thoughtful and well spoken lad. If this season's performance didn't reinforce it - clearly more to him than his previous reputation.

Re: Weekend football - 20/21 April 2024
I agree with the overall points everyone is making, and even think for offsides there should be more margin of error built into the system - false precision is an issue I get annoyed with in all walks of life. But, I disagree with the pretense that fans and clubs would be more accepting of human err...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist
Am I right in saying that interest paid on stadium infrastructure does count though? Doesn't really matter for us, but I think that's what caught Everton out. Correct - Everton's stadium has definitely contributed to their problems. As an aside, I would hate for a stadium anywhere but overlooking L...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist
We have way too many gaps in the side, as demonstrated by the low-points of this season to replace the best player of it. Some will say we could use his revenue to buy several upgrades, but having held tight pursestrings this year there'd be no excuse for selling the most talented player we have (no...

How do you even go from his journeyman footballer career to managing a third-division UAE side (and following 2 promotions a tier 1 side), having not even played football there? Pretty bizarre stuff.overseasTOON wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 2:34 pmNever knew that Steven Taylor went into football management.

Re: Football Titbits
I completely believe and agree it's a financial decision too, however I can also imagine there's a supporter satisfaction consideration at play and if there is a lot of increased demand for single tickets, you can keep more people happier by having availability to see a couple games rather than the ...

So in terms of other players we had scouts at both of Atalantas last few games with Ederson and Koopenmeiners being our watching brief We also had scouts in Tbilisi during playoffs with Marmadashvili thought to be high in our thoughts Diogo Costa from porto also watched. Lille keeper Chevalier also...

Re: Football Titbits
I think there's a key distinction here - is the FFP intended to manage parity and performance, or dissuade overspending and risking financial bankruptcy? I feel like people are conflating the two. Despite what clubs like Leicester would suggest, FFP isn't intended to mitigate overperformance based o...

Re: Joelinton set to sign new deal
Glad that this will be one more position we may not have to invest in - although I still think we need to recruit a proper CDM. I think Bruno, Big Joe and Tonali have the makings of a good midfield 3, however none of them are true defensive midfielders and I only think they could cover us with the s...

I don't particularly trust our existing RWs would actually be more productive in the Netherlands right now if they were in his position - we've seen how much they specifically benefited from playing under the current coaches and system.

The VAR review and player down injured on the touchline make it one of the more reasonable 9 minute additions we'll see this season. Just glad we saw it out.

Yikes what a who's who of mediocrity on that bench. Credit to Bruno, I can't believe he's gone this long without another yellow. No excuse for him not displaying more discipline in the future - he's proven he can do it.

Re: Days lost through injury
I agree with some of that, but there's no way I'm playing Krafth or Murphy at left back ahead of Burn, and certainly not Dummett or Ritchie at this stage (I'd rather have Dummett central as did against Man City earlier this season). He's had some shaky moments, but to pin everything on him in a sea...
