Re: Match day thread - NUFC v West Ham

I can understand why they'd consider it given we're playing in July, but whenever they've done it at summer tournaments it's only been in games with high temperatures, and it's not that warm today. Not arguing with that, but it’s like 13/14 degrees today. World Cups and Euros (I was in Nice for the...

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v West Ham

Sick of these drinks breaks. We were playing well and that destroyed out momentum. They're basically not required and yet another introduction that is ruining a free-flowing sport. I can understand why they'd consider it given we're playing in July, but whenever they've done it at summer tournament...

Why didn't Max shoot?
Why didn't Almiron? Needless to say I was shouting at both!

Great save from Dubravka before it, need a goal soon.

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v West Ham

ASM is genuinely ridiculous. His running with the ball pisses on Ben Arfa's.

My stream has got about 3 min delay! 😀😀😀 was wondering what everyone was on about
I'm watching on Now TV using the pass they gave season ticket holders, I genuinely think it's worse than half the streams I've watched. It's dropped out completely twice.

What has happened to the rules on handball?
Nothing's changed for defenders, no pens for accidental handball.

Re: What's the verdict on VAR?

I’d be more in favour of the rule being that so long as part of you is onside then the goal is given. That's still the same issue though, you're just drawing the line in a different place, and in many cases would be giving an attacking player a huge advantage if they're running on goal. The obvious...

Re: What's the verdict on VAR?

I think it's a great addition to the game and needs to be persevered with. It's not being used perfectly and there have been some awful decisions but these things take time. Isn't the argument that you iron the issues out (hell, play friendly after friendly at St George's Park, you could use pub te...

Re: What's the verdict on VAR?

Not to defend our refs (who seem to believe we expect them to be infallible), but I've seen the argument "it's just our implementation, it works in Europe" a few times and it isn't quite the case. Dale Johnson is a journo who covers it regularly and put together a Twitter thread a while back explain...

Re: What's the verdict on VAR?

The Sheffield goal after the restart is an abhorrent failing of the system. Initially it's a failing of goal line technology, and the apparent deference of that was "oh, it's never happened before" which is fantastic in itself. This kind of situation is exactly what VAR is meant to be about, not aw...

Re: What's the verdict on VAR?

I'm vaguely in favour of the concept of preventing the absolute howlers that occasionally got missed but the application has been horrific. No one ever complained about a ridiculously tight offside call, and the majority of VAR decisions seem to be those. Add to that the fact it still makes bloody e...

Came in at the start of this season along with the changes to handball (awful) and the "subs go off to the nearest edge" (forgotten several times this season) rule.

Re: WEEKEND FOOTBALL - 4/6 JULY 2020

Matic's foot is clearly offside for the Fernandes free-kick yet the goal still stood even though VAR checked the goal. <disgrace> <disgrace> <disgrace> Not only that, everyone (including Peter Walton on BT) seems to have forgotten the rule about having to be a metre away from the wall, Matic is pra...

Re: Match day thread - Bournemouth v NUFC

I thought he looked better in the previous games. He didn't do an awful lot wrong against Bournemouth, but he wasnt overly involved especially going forward. As part of the front 3/4 you barely saw him in the area while ASM was creating goals. Oh yeah he didn't create much or anything, just looked ...
