Re: Match thread - Arsenal v NUFC

I don't think anyone is saying Bruce is less defensive or better than Rafa, I just find it ridiculous that apparently Rafa achieved "miracles" with a poor side, while Bruce is supposedly stifling a team of superstars. I feel like I must have missed a couple of transfer windows maybe? Oh I fully agr...

Re: Match thread - Arsenal v NUFC

Rafa was certainly a defensive manager, but I personally can't see how Bruce's style was any better. Benitez at least had some nous to change things, even just a tweak here and there. The knowledge and wherewithal to use different formations, personel or styles depending on who you played was a big ...

Re: Match thread - Arsenal v NUFC

Looking sharp in attack here. Clearly focusing down our right hand side with Saka at left back. Lozaro has looked impressive in the short time so far. Joelinton had a couple bright moments as well early on.

Re: Match thread - Arsenal v NUFC

This has got another dreadful 0-0 written all over it. I think Arsenal have only won two games since October. Knowing us though, means we'll roll over and let them have a season defining thumping.

Re: Man C banned from European Competition for 2 years

CL spot for whoever finishes 5th it their ban isn’t overturned. Yes, sod the FA Cup let's go all out for a CL place! If we win tomorrow would be only four points off. Not going to happen but would make the end of the season interesting to say the least. Everton wolves man u and Sheffield will all b...

Re: The saint

I’d rather see someone like that trying to make something happen than some aimless pump into the box or endless sideways passing - football should be entertaining, not turgid. Yeah, I didn't mean that as a criticism, more agreeing with the earlier point. Definitely an exciting player to watch. Hope...

Re: The saint

I think you've always got to think about these things, he's undoubtedly the kind of exciting player we need, but given when he's injured his replacement is usually Atsu I'd fancy my stats too... My worry is that defenders are going to find him out fairly quickly after a run of games, that cut in an...

He was probably the best player at the club in small sided training games. Just had no real position and terrible luck with injury.

Re: Match thread - Oxford v NUFC ( FA cup 4 replay )

Really?!? While Lejeune is my favourite (though he's been shaky on return from injury) Ciaran Clark has been outstanding when called on and notably man of the match in a few recently. Ditto Fernandez really. If we're going to play 3 at the back we need 5 minimum, so I certainly wouldn't be moving o...

Re: Match thread - Oxford v NUFC ( FA cup 4 replay )

He was great in a 2 with lejeune though. We've got the players to cover for his weaknesses so they don't matter as much, a lot of great defences have worked that way Yeah fair point I forgot about that. Lejeune is comfortably our most rounded CB, I do worry still about Lascelles in possession much ...

Re: Match thread - Oxford v NUFC ( FA cup 4 replay )

It's probably the usual formation with a bit of shoehorning. Maybe it could be a more narrow version, sort of like a 5-4-1 diamond?

Yedlin - Schar - Lascelles - Lejuene - Ritchie
Bentaleb
Mlongstaff Slongstaff
Almiron
Joelinton

It's from the mail, so pinch of salt etc, but I wouldn't be surprised. "It was also reported Soumare turned down Newcastle because he wasn't impressed with the club's training facilities after he was shown them in a video phone call." https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7958247/Newcas...
