Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Citeh

We’re playing a team that has way more ammunition than us in the late stages of the game though. That means the players will be focused on conserving energy as much as possible so aren’t going to make as many forward runs as when we’re losing (or even drawing). The benefit of an extra goal at 2-1 is...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Citeh

Howe just doesn't have that extra something to survive at the level we need, last season was the peak I'm afraid, I don't see what difference a fully fit squad would have done today for us or what 2-3 more signings would have done for us. Tactically he's been found out and I don't think he knows wh...

Draw your away games, win your home games. Solid start.

Also, 2 clean sheets in a row after a long run of not being able to keep 1.
This and this.

Quick look and it seems like AC haven’t lost at home since January 11th so it’s a point you can’t complain about at all

Re: Matchday thread - Seagulls v Magpies

Two piss poor performances in one week. Why did we spend £100m on two back-up full backs and a benched winger? Bizarre

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Livarpool

Howe had a f***ing nightmare there as he always does against Liverpool. First league game I can remember under him where we’ve underperformed all over the pitch

Re: Tino Livramento Deal agreed

I too find it odd. We need a centre back much more than full back. Yes, but Lascelles (or Burn) coming in at CB is stronger than Manquillo/Krafth coming in at RB IMO. But agree we do need a better quality CB for cover / first team. Burn and Lascelles coming in at CB are both stronger than Burn star...

Re: Matchday thread - Leeds v Toon

Ref let most things go for both sides but missed a few clear fouls (both ways) and got it wrong on both of Firpo’s fouls which were both clearly straight reds but he only saw yellow for. Okay point overall. Means 1 win and 2 draws from the final 3 does it, but going into the final game needing a dra...

Re: Matchday thread - Villa v Toon

Hence why I said guarantee top 4 (on GD)! Beating them makes things significantly easier in the final 7 games, whatever their results, as it gives us a two game cushion instead of one It was more the bit about us having to win 6 out of 7 if we lost to Spurs. Possibly we would depending on what Spur...

Re: Matchday thread - Villa v Toon

Beat Spurs next week and then 4 wins from the final 7 would essentially guarantee top 4. Lose and we’ll need 6 wins from 7. Huge game, hope the atmosphere is rocking Why? Spurs certainly aren’t winning all of their games. Hence why I said guarantee top 4 (on GD)! Beating them makes things significa...

Re: Lineker removed from MOTD for criticising govt

Lineker being arrogant and egotistical is a tabloid-concocted narrative and it’s sad to see how persuasive it is. My mum doesn’t watch anything he’s on, but said that exact line to me today because she reads opinion pieces in rag newspapers that have a vested interest in character assassinations of...

Re: Lineker removed from MOTD for criticising govt

My biggest fear with this is that Lineker comes across as pretty arrogant and egotistical most of the time so it won't have as big of an impact as it really should with the general population. Overheard a few people talk about this situation and they didn't really grasp how dangerous this situation...

Re: Weekend football - 11/12 March 2023

Good punditry massively adds to the value of sports programmes. Admittedly, BBC punditry is fairly surface level compared to the analysis on Monday Night Football for example, but that’s because it’s for a broader audience who are less invested. Lots of people learn from the analysis on MOTD - I kno...

Re: The Carabao Cup Final matchday thread

Poor performance, but can’t fault effort. Man U the better team but helped by a dodgy offside decision (they paused the frame very late from Shaw kicking it and then drew the line ahead of Wilson’s toe?) and the advantage that brought. Think today highlighted a few areas where we need new signings i...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Liverpool

The last time we lost a game that Bruno started, it was August. ASM hitting form. Isak and Wilson both available. Targett and Willock possibly back.

If Trippier/Almiron can neutralise Rashford, and Karius can avoid any big errors, then I think we win it. We might be down, but we’re far from out.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Liverpool

Couldn't take any more after Pope's sending off and turned off! We were the better team in the first 20 minutes (and also from 20 mins onwards from what I've skimmed on Twitter) but somehow found ourselves 2-0 down without a keeper <laugh> It almost feels like we're getting all the ridiculousness ou...
