Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Gunners

Best performance of the season so far, though fair to say Arsenal are way off their best at the moment, but a great result none the less. Lewis Hall has the potential to be the best LB in the league if he carries on this progress over the next couple of years. Today felt we actually played our own g...

Re: Howe under pressure?

So the view is if we sign a better back up to Isak, sign another CB, and sign another CM (let's face it we won't unless we sell one of the 3 starters) and Add a RW, that solves all the issues and we are back on form and winning games again? So basically we just need a CB and RW and a striker for the...

Re: Howe under pressure?

The last year has shown his ability to adapt is pretty non existent, tactically poor and he's very stubborn. We have an elite first team midfield on paper, 2/3rds of our starting attack are very very high level players also, the defence is aging but still those players shouldn't be playing as bad as...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelski (Part 1)

It’s like we’ve taken a comfort break from the initial early over achieving. We failed to capitalise on that as if it was some kind of free hit entitlement in the Champions league. We are undoubtedly in a rut, I’d suggest off the field In terms of operating relations just as much as we are poor on ...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelski (Part 1)

It's up to Howe as a manager to find a solution to that midfield, he's failed massively. This was an issue even before Tonalis ban, the excuse last year was the Tonali situation. He has him back and nothing has changed, it's a system/tactical issue, not a personnel one. Burn, Schar, Murphy, Longstaf...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelski (Part 1)

This club won't progress any further on the football pitch under Howe, sorry but he has to go, whatever this identity is, if we have one doesn't work, tactically it doesnt work, whatever he's doing in training doesn't work, however he's trying to motivate players doesn't work. He trusts 5-6 players ...

The amount of free kicks Schar gets to take really annoys me.
Didn’t Tonali take a lot of set pieces for Milan? Hardly seems to get considered here.
Yeah, he was a massive threat from dead balls. Here I don't think he's even taken one.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelski (Part 1)

Broadcasters and pundits are cowards, gushing over Chelsea's depth and how half these players didn't have to travel for their European game.

Let's not mention the billion or so spent completely unchecked whilst the rest are having to sell for daring to spend about a quarter of that. 🙄

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelski (Part 1)

Clearly been set up just to nullify individual threats, once again tactically abysmal, we still approach games like we are relegation candidates.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelski (Part 1)

Not going to write off a result today based solely on the fact we tend to play better when against the bigger clubs in the league. Good results against Chelsea and Arsenal then we will absolutely s*** it against Forest.

Re: Weekend football - 19/21 October 2024

I'd maybe argue that Cabella's best stretch was still with Montpellier before we bought him, though he's been perfectly fine since. It's just egregious how much money was wasted buying Cabella, selling him in a swap for Thauvin, then loaning Thauvin back too. What a terrible era of mismanaging reso...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Seagulls

Hall has probably been one of our better players this season, defence as a whole hasn't been great and it's not helped by a midfield that's constantly getting exposed. Going forward we are far too predictable, defend against our left hand side, job done. We are tactically sub par and we still rely t...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Seagulls

Feels like we are back trying to find anything to blame other than the coaching team, we have been unconvincing and off it for so long. It's pushing to close to 12 months of this level of football. It simply hasn't been good enough.

Re: The Managerial Merry-Go-Round Thread

There's no doubting that Howe nor Potter can match the experience / CV of Tuchel. I do think it's a bit harsh on Potter saying he blew his big opportunity. He walked into a club that was/is absolute carnage and wasn't given much time. Plenty of 'bigger' managers than him have had no luck trying to ...
