Re: Weekend football - 2/6 May 2024
I'm pretty sure that Man City not winning the cup will negatively effect us in terms of european places. If we finish 5th, it's moot. But whilst we are in good form and Spurs are not, it's still moot. And they have the Sheffield voucher left to cash. I'll eat my hat if we finish 5th. And I hate eat...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Burnley
Interesting that there were a few comments last week about Murphy being useless - and here we saw is speed and decisiveness in finding players in the box.
Hes defo a step up on Almiron imo
We need to keep him

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Citeh
I must say that I thought after the 4 subs we matched city much better. This was likely partially because they were 2 up & could relax more - but looked more lively with more bite & competition in the middle . Hall looks impressive and quick . Bruno seems to be a far better prospect when he has 2 or...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelsea
I've seen us play worse and get something from the game this season and it did at one point seem like it was two teams trying to demonstrate how not to retain any possession. Burn was heavily exposed in the first half which made any break out by Chelsea quite simple to execute. It was only swapping...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelsea
Also- if Southgate doesn't start Palmer in next England team- I'd say he's clueless & has to move on . The kid is class and looks better every week Ahead of who though? While Southgate's selections absolutely need to be scrutinised if you look at vaguely similar positions I wouldn't put him ahead o...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelsea
This Season is over to me ( aside from the cup ) It's all about ensuring we can get a fit & better quality squad ready on the pitch for next season. If we can get everyone fit, have Tonali back , keep Joe-L & Bruno , continue to bring good young'uns thru...... and (.crucially) uprate 2 or 3 of our l...

Re: Days lost through injury
Cant help thinking how strong we could potentially look next season if we manage to hold onto Bruno & Joe-L and bring in a couple of new faces . Not sure how realistic it is to hang onto our Brazil boys however Now with kids like Miley & others pushing into the squad , and the likes of Willock, Pope...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Cherries
We need a proper top line manager next season ( not Mourinho @@!)
Otherwise all this investment will be wasted due to poor tactics and outlook.

Wot a surprise ?Remember Colo wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 4:43 pmImmediately look better in possession with Tino too. So much more balanced with an additional option down the left.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Cherries
Howes time is running out Wtf is it with this Burn thing I'm not watching the game however- was he at fault fir any of the goals ? First goal less so, although inability to play it out the left resulted in it going back to Martin who slipped. Second goal was 1:1 with the RW and he gave him so much ...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Cherries
It's like Dan's been told to close nobody down because he'll otherwise get beat for pace, thereby giving up shots and passes. If you have to sub a defender this many weeks in a row, maybe change the starting XI. Howes time is running out Wtf is it with this Burn thing I'm not watching the game howe...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Forest
I've thought the midfield has looked poor since pre season, remember watching them games and felt worried about how easily teams played through us centrally, passed it off as just a pre season thing but it's something that has persisted through the season. This is part of my gripe with Howe, this s...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Forest
Got to admit thar after the heady heights of last seasons performances, I've lost the faith in Howe somewhat. There seems to a blind spot with regards to the LB spot - and every team in the country has now noticed and will try to probe down thar side with speedy wingers . We were very lucky to win t...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Forest
Whether burn moves to third Cb in a formation change or is dropped, we need the pace of Tino at LB / LWB. If not it’s immediately obvious of what will happen. I'd be interested to see us with 3 at back & wingback. When moving forward Schar like to bring the ball out and that could work - with Tino ...

Re: Football Titbits
Sounds like Anderson & Willock could both be back in contention within a week
With Murphy fit, Barnes back - Wilson fit ( and hopefully Isak & Gordon not too far off) - this could be the strongest we've been since start of the season.
Maybe perfect timing for a cup run to Wembley?

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Hatters
Not going to lie about it; gutted to drop the points Vs Luton at home and truly expected the 3 points as retribution for the away game before Xmas. Howe needs to drop Burn to the bench as he's the weakest link in the defence and is always targeted. If Burn was scoring from set pieces then his inclu...

Re: Howe under pressure?
I think the club really needs to evaluate Howe at the end of the season. Persistent issues not being resolved, how he can continue to pick Burn when we are handcuffed by FFP yet he's sitting £60m+ worth of full backs on the bench. Last 2 games are ones too far for me on this issue, 2 games in a row...
