Re: Players not signed

Seems a bit of a stretch to include players like Salah and Van Dijk, when I don't remember particularly strong links to them, especially compared to all of the other stories regarding their potential sales. https://www.90min.com/posts/6011716-what-could-have-been-liverpool-superstar-mohamed-salah-a...

Re: Match thread - Toon vs Citeh

So today, I made two decisions.

1) Skip the game and go out for dinner instead (it was a f***ing write off on paper)
2) Start a thread to discuss all the failed signings we should have had

I'm going to add 3) I'm putting £10 on Mike Ashley living until breakfast on Saturday

Players not signed

In the wake of Miguel Almiron not signing (I didn't really ever think he would, but confirmation has come out today that the deal is virtually dead), has anyone ever compiled a list of failed signings under Ashley in recent years where players were heavily linked (as opposed to the odd recommendatio...

Re: 16 games left to average 1.25 points* per game (Thanks to Speedo for correcting my Maths)

Just out of interest these are the next three games for those involved in the relegation battle:- CRYSTAL PALACE : Southampton (a), Fulham (h) & West Ham (h) SOUTHAMPTON : Palace (h), Burnley (a) & Cardiff (h) BURNLEY : Man Utd (a), Southampton (h) & Brighton (a) NEWCASTLE UNITED : Man City (h), Sp...

Re: NUFC Minor/Untrusted Transfer Rumours (January 2019)

On wikipedia: On 23 January 2019, Martins agreed to a loan deal at the most glorious club in the world, Newcastle United. At his announcement Martins described the move as "The best thing to happen to me since i was a little lad playing in ma toon top on the streets of byker". Martins then went on t...

That's horrific! I'll never get on a plane that small...Feel really sorry for his family etc.

I'm wondering what this means for Cardiff too...are they out of pocket

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v Cardiff

See: Everyone deciding David de Gea was s***. I'm still on the fence on that one. Every top regarded keeper definitely seems to have had blunders followed by purple patches followed by howlers. Then, some of them manage to retain their places into their mid 30s and beyond and everyone regards them ...

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v Cardiff

I wouldn't go that far. Sterry I think will make his way down the leagues fairly quickly (he's 23 already), and I'm not convinced Roberts is up to standard. Of this current crop of "nearly old enough"s Woodman has the best chance, and I'd like to see more of Longstaff, but generally our academy is ...

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v Cardiff

Am I the only person not getting carried away on Longstaff?

He hasn't really done anything *that* impressive yet...He may be good enough, but he hasn't really been tested as far as I am concerned...

Rondon is some player by the way. He adds so much to the team when he plays.
Even though he turns 30 next season, I reckon he could play for another 3 years at this level like this. I'd say swap Gayle for him, if Benitez stays (<1% chance of this happening)

Re: Wagner leaves Huddersfield!

It looked that bad for Southampton when Hughes left, so I wouldn't assume they won't get some sort of bounce. That being said, they have a weak squad.

Re: Rio/Keys Spouting Pure s****

To be fair Rio was being anything but honest and Keys is being utterly absurd. Why are we the only club in the Premier League where our manager needs to have a whip round to buy players with his own money? Ashley is trying to run the club as a business and make his money back (badly by all accounts...

Re: 'Miracle' needed - Benitez

Yes - dud signings are an issue. But i you're getting 4th - 10th choice players because they're cost effective choices that is what will happen.

This also doesn't account for the rug being pulled out at the same time in terms of player sales.

Re: 'Miracle' needed - Benitez

I'm surprised by the number of negative comments in response to the manager's statement here. He finds himself manager of an underinvested squad and wants money to improve it. I'd say this is indisputable. The team doesn't spend like every other club does in the premier league. I'd say this is indis...

NUFC v Leicester 28.09.18

I saw a point in the Palace thread regarding disappointment that Rondon is crocked for tomorrow's game and potentially more after that. I do match the sentiment, but with the way the team has been playing and the fact he was looking sluggish against Palace, I'd have suggested the team plugs away wit...

Re: Kevin Keegan - “I came up against a wall of incompetence, deceit & arrogance”

<laugh> Definitely making it up, absolute chancer Jimenez Keegan's not stupid enough to have wanted to sign Beckham in 2008. I'd love to see this prick's evidence that he had the likes of Defoe lined up to sign...and if he did, why didn't he sign him? Clearly the manager's lack of approval was not ...
