Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Villa

Best we've looked in months. Some well executed passes, sound marking at the back, and well timed pressing. Now to avoid the individual errors that've plagued us.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Villa

We'll have to have another injury for Tino to start again, huh? I miss watching his runs and tackling.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Cottagers

Was that the first FA Cup win against PL opposition in the past 10 tries?

Re: Football Titbits

So Villa are going to Adidas next season too (currently Castore). Adidas is partly owned by the Aston Villa owner. Is that deal subject to the same checks we have to go through when signing sponsorship deals with Saudi companies to ensure it's fair market value? I think in the era of FFP all sponso...

Re: The Managerial Merry-Go-Round Thread

Admittedly I haven't watched any of AFCON, but losing to Cape Verde and conceding twice in stoppage time to draw with Mozambique is worthy of criticism.

Re: Other Clubs Transfers/Rumours/Wishlist

Can just imagine him straining a calf or hamstring in his first match - especially given our luck this season.

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

FFP sucks big time. Imagine winning the Euro millions but being told you're not allowed to buy a new house, car etc unless you sell you're current ones first. A more apt comparison is finding out you have a rich long-lost uncle but you want to buy a new house before his will has been processed and ...

Re: Football Titbits

Was pretty ballsy making the Adidas deal a cornerstone of the documentary series, however I think a lot of the big clubs tend to announce new kit partners well in advance too, so its part and parcel of the business and isn't unique to us.

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

We absolutely need a midfielder, but swapping the player that drives our play doesn't seem to me like something that would result in improvement. I appreciate we'll need to make some sells at some point to keep this thing churning over from an accounting perspective, but I think it'd be a gut punch...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

...one of the rumours is that we want Kimmich, if that was possible within profit & sustainability with a swap deal involving Trippier it would be a no brainer for me. Probably BS... Yeah that ain't happening. Talking of profit and sustainability and ffp I see Moise Kean is on the move again Himsel...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Obviously don't want him to go, but somethings clearly happening behind the scenes / in his personal life and he doesn't seem happy and obviously he's nowhere near the top of his game. If it was good money and allowed us in this window to bring in a midfielder that we desperately need now then it's...

Re: Football Titbits

Supposedly he hasn't been paid yet... And the reason he's targetting a continental team is to avoid British taxes until he's been gone long enough. As for the significance, his is nothing to the Saudi League, but if it's to believed that Benzema also wants shot already - that I think is a much bigg...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Brazilian sources (and maybe now domestic ones?) suggesting Joelinton's quad tendon injury is worse than initially expected, requiring surgery and likely ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Re: Other Clubs Transfers/Rumours/Wishlist

Definitely feels like a situation where they'd never have loaned him to an English side in case he rebounded and made them look like idiots. And even loaning him back to Dortmund allows them the narrative if he returns to form that it's because he's back where he'd previously played his best.

Re: Sunderland "ready to go" song

Didn't the previous owner(s) make a big deal of changing the song to something clubby trying to upgrade the matchday mood? Pretty sure it was roundly mocked for how they tried to celebrate the decision in their documentary series.

Don't stop for petrol in Wolverhampton on the way there - might just get Tonya Harding'd by a hooded attacker seeking a last minute ticket. <whistle>

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

I think it's important for us to maintain momentum. If we really are intending to compete with clubs like Man U and Chelsea in the table, but also off the field for attracting or retaining talent (playing and front office), we need to demonstrate this "project" is still building and moving forward....

Re: Football Titbits

Agree with everyone else. Was an interesting player to watch among a relatively boring lot of players in 2010-11 (once HBA was injured and Carroll was off to 'Pool), but by the time he was fussing about Cabaye taking corners in pre-season (11-12) I was fed up with his unnecessary drama. Ultimately t...

Re: Transfer Rumours/Wishlist

Schar has signed a one year extension to take him through to the end of next season. Only just turned 32, so good piece of business as he has been superb under Howe and rarely misses games (despite seemingly getting injured or ending up in a heap on the floor every single match <laugh> ). I think o...
