Re: General Election 2017

Do you have any worries about the Tories uncosted manifesto? Not really. Selfishly more of the same will do me just fine What about May's stance on internet privacy? Or her insistence on cutting immigration numbers depsite the fact that pretty much every study shows that immigration is very importa...

Re: General Election 2017

So Ive decided to vote Tory. I can see why many people are going to vote Labour - their manifesto appeals to many. Funding for the NHS and Schools, minimum wage rises, benefits, tax cuts for the minority, free childcare, no tuition fees etc. But I just can't see how it can be supported without ulti...

Re: General Election 2017

I can't really see how any rational person could argue that Corbyn gets a tougher time from the media. Can you imagine the reaction from the media if he did some of the stuff May has done? <laugh>

Re: The Message of Awe Thread

The Man with the Golden Gun is probably my favourite Bond film of his. I've never seen a Bond film older than Timothy Dalton, so I might as well start here. I liked that little anecdote about him and the kid's autograph that's been doing the rounds <awe>. Made me realise I knew nothing about him at...

Re: Vučkić's Video Shop

Anyone been watching American Gods? Looks alright on the adverts so might give it a go. I assume you haven't read the book? Didn't strike me as something that would be easy to make into a TV series when I read it so I'd be curious as to how it translates. I haven't read the book but I'm watching th...

Re: Pavel's eBar

I'm not sure that was a good analogy... <laugh> <awe> I like it. Especially because chickens hatch out of eggs, much like the oppressive regimes based on the brutal imposition of Islamic jurisprudence hatched out of post-Ottoman ideology to unite the ummah into a single state. And the chicken that ...

Re: Pavel's eBar

There has been oppressive, nationalistic regimes that have fuled this ideology of terror and violence and caused huge instability dating that far back though. Yeah. I'm not sure I follow your point. I'm saying an ideology is the root cause, you're saying that some governments who protect and suppor...

Re: General Election 2017

If Labour had done this everyone would be banging on about how they're "not economically competent". They deserve to be derided for not accurately costing their policies. 100% this, only labour are ever made to cost their policies, nobody else ever gets asked, even in this thread people attack labo...

Re: General Election 2017

They haven't scrapped it... So there is no U-turn then? This is more a problem of having a completely uncosted policy which you could attack them on in a number of ways just not being a U-turn. Let's be honest you are going to complain whatever the Tories do. They've backtracked on what they said i...

Re: General Election 2017

This isn't them reversing a policy because it is unpopular. They stated in their manifesto it was going to cost £60m a year and now realised that it could actually cost up to £400m. This was suppose to be a cost saving policy. Okay then they have scrapped it for practical reasons then. Would you ra...

Re: Pavel's eBar

I don't think you can just lump all terrorism into one thing <scratch>. Yes and no. You need to look at why terrorism (Islamic or otherwise) has developed in certain places and why it didn't in others despite seemingly similar conditions. For example saying that Islamic terrorism is caused by and w...

More backtracking http://schoolsweek.co.uk/conservatives-back-track-on-60m-for-primary-school-breakfasts/ Never understood why people get so upset/uppity about 'U-turns' . Government makes a decision, government sees that a decision is unpopular, government reverses the decision and the people comp...

Re: Pavel's eBar

If the main cause of terrorism is the West backing up violet dictatorships then why didn't we have a major problem with South American, South East Asian and African terrorism when we propped up dictatorships during the Cold War? Wahhabism which uses Western intervention in the Middle East and has i...
