Re: Howe under pressure?

Agreed, a stop gap keeper is utterly pointless and pretty insulting to the 3 remaining in the squad. Dubravka isn't playing nearly as badly as some are making out, and stopped it from being 5 or 6 conceded against Forest. I still think we need a long term upgrade on Pope, mainly for distribution (a...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v 'Pool

This is a tiny bit misleading though. 2 penalties (that weren't penalties) and the Trent rebound from 6 yards will account for over 2 xG. 2 of the goals scored were literally open goals from inside 6 yards so will likely have been 0.98 xG or so. Gakpo was 6 yards out with a keeper and nothing else ...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v 'Pool

6 assists in 164 games now for Almiron. For context: Maxi got 5 last season and he only started 12 matches. Gordon has 5 this season. Murphy has 5 across this season and last (15 starts) Barnes has 1 this season which is the same as Almiron. Longstaff has 6 across this season and last. Bruno has 7 a...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v 'Pool

7.2 xG for Liverpool shows that this wasn’t a contest in any way, shape or form. This is a tiny bit misleading though. 2 penalties (that weren't penalties) and the Trent rebound from 6 yards will account for over 2 xG. 2 of the goals scored were literally open goals from inside 6 yards so will like...

Re: Howe under pressure?

Just been discussing this. For me he's more than proven himself as a coach and being able to put out 11 organised players and playing a really exciting and effective brand of football that gets results, that isn't in doubt at all. But for us now and where we want to be we cannot just look at that a...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Spurs

A lot of poor individual performances today, as well as being poor as a team. I'd rather use Karius than Dubravka. Trippier being banned is a blessing, he needs the rest. Our midfield and attack was poor today. Second best all over. Lascelles showed why he is only a back up option.

Is it wrong that I quite like watching Villa play and want them to beat Arsenal…
They look like the real deal under Emery.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Arsenal

Our midfield looks stronger than theirs. Zinchenko also helped dominate the game for them last season and he's benched for Tomiyasu.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Man U

Wouldn't completely leave it at this. How many off the ball incidents or kick outs have we seen since the introduction of VAR? Think one purpose of it that has been undeniably successful is it being a deterrent for the petty kick outs as they know they can't get away with it now. I don’t think that...

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Man U

Yep VAR can **** off. Scrap it, have automated offsides like the CL and leave it at that. Wouldn't completely leave it at this. Nice to see Henderson getting booed off the pitch earlier. Not sure why Longstaff isn't in the conversation for England either
Southgate is a joke. Longstaff and Ward-Prowse should be in that squad without a doubt.

Re: Mental Health

Loved that video from Norwich, was really quite moving.

Mental health is a huge issue that even now is still somewhat neglected. As a society we are improving, but there are still too many strands that are simply dismissed.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Burnley

Sounds like it was a routine win with minimal drama. Happy with that. Recovered from our shaky start to be 4 points off the top 4 with a better GD than everybody except for City.

Draw your away games, win your home games. Solid start.

Also, 2 clean sheets in a row after a long run of not being able to keep 1.

Not able to watch it annoyingly. Sounds like we have had more of the ball but they've threatened far more. Big second half coming up.

Rumours that Joelinton is injured, Botman is back and Tonali and Almiron are rested. Means Anderson and Longstaff both set to start, Wilson in for Isak as well.

Re: Matchday thread - Seagulls v Magpies

As others have said, I need to see the coaches show some willingness to mix things up and show some trust in the very expensive additions to the squad. Whether we're playing well or in a poor run of form, I think it important that coaches be willing to rotate the starting team to keep things fresh ...

Re: Matchday thread - Seagulls v Magpies

We were poor again, but we have played 4 teams that qualified for Europe. Our start has been much harder than anybody else's. Just need to make sure we bounce back and take points from our winnable games that are coming up now.
