Newcastle United Championship Champions 2016-17

Post by OTLB » Sat Dec 12, 2020 10:35 am

Morning all,

I am an avid EFL and non-league fan, and run a blog dedicated to such.
We have launched an advent calendar this month, where each day we look back at a past EFL and non-league winner.

Today, our EFL winner is Newcastle United's Championship title win in 2017.
We look back at the Championship winning season as they edged out Brighton and Hove Albion by just a single point, looking at some of the key games and results along the way as Rafael Benitez secured an instant return to the Premier League.
Be great to have a read and reminisce about your EFL days, with fingers crossed you won't be experiencing again any time soon.

Happy reading!

Welcome. It was largely a boring season and we had the best squad in the league by a country mile. We should have developed young players along with trusting our experienced ones like we did in 2009/10 but that isn't the Benitez way. Sure we got promoted and won the league but it didn't have the same feel as our previous Championship campaign. It was a slog when it didn't need to be.
