Mrs BB had a knife pulled on her at work today, just another day in the life of an NHS worker...

She works in adult mental health, this guy wasn’t a service user, he just wandered into the main reception off the street. He was arrested but the irony is he'll probably be admitted to the place he was arrested from. She’s had her hair pulled, been punched etc before but never had a weapon pulled on her.

Jesus BB that's awful. My wife is an A&E doc and it's scary. When she was pregnant I was worrying about diseases (chickenpox bad for fetuses) but also she was @Alder Hey when the Alfie Evans 'protest' was happening and doctors needed escorting to work because of the mob

Re: Pavel's eBar
Bit of a work dilemma. My current role was a 2 year fixed term contract (got about 10 months left). An identical job in another part of the place I work came up on a 2 year fixed term contract so I applied for that and got offered the job. It’s the same grade/pay as I’m on now.
However, this afternoon (before I was offered the new job) my boss told me they’d got approval to make my job permanent which is good. The only thing is that my role very much sits in isolation so there’s no chance of progressing as there’s no role above mine to move to. Whereas the new job I was offered sits as part of a brand new team (but is fixed term, initially) where there are Project Officers (the role I was offered), then Project Managers above that, then Programme Managers above that.
So do I stay where I am with a new permanent contract but no chance of progression, or do I move to the new role on a 2 year fix but with realistic progression opportunities (and some likelihood that the fixed term contract would probably be extended)...?

It depends how likely you are to be kept on in the new job - you sound keen to take it which makes me think you are more interested in it. If it has reasonable job security and you are keen I would go for it.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 7:38 pmBit of a work dilemma. In 10 years time, if you're still in this role and not progressed, will you be happy?Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 7:38 pmBit of a work dilemma. Re: Pavel's eBar
Take the new job chap as it has the option of progressing up the ladder.
Re: Pavel's eBar
Yep, back yourself. Progression is critical and you can earn a full time job at the new place too
I had the first custom w***

Hmm thanks chaps. Still not fully decided! Progression at this stage may outweigh security...

Re: Pavel's eBar
A solid argument!
But yeah, I've got to let them know tomorrow and I think I'm going to take it. Even though my current job is now permanent tbh I'd be bored out of my brains if i was still doing it in a couple of years time. The new one is fixed terms but the projects seem more interesting and there's a strong chance it'll be extended I'd say (they're building an entire new project support team so unlikely to scrap it after 2 year....theoretically!).
I do feel a bit bad telling my current boss as she's been working behind the scenes to get this job made permanent for me.
