I got mine from Waitrose, just in I think, it wasn't there last week. Read a few reviews, which were fairly good but not glowing, but they don't mention a smoky taste, so perhaps that is just me. Still worth a go though, it definitely has something a bit different. I'm just not sure yet whether the difference makes it good or takes something away.Tsi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 2:05 amI'll see if i can get that local if not i'll get it on the net sounds interesting. Always down for the unusual.Donkey Toon wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 11:37 pmJust tried a dubiously named sour mash called Daddy Rack. Despite its terrible name it has quite an interesting taste, it is apparently aged in charcoal barrels and as a result has a distinctively smoky flavour. Quite nice, not top draw but worth a go and definitely a bit different from other bourbons/sour mash i've tried.

“Interesting different” I don’t mind if it’s not too expensive.

I paid about £31 but with vat added it would be a bit more in the UK.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 3:25 pm“Interesting different” I don’t mind if it’s not too expensive.
But in context I could have bought 1792 or Eagle Rare for 2 or 3 pounds less and Woodford Reserve for £9 less and on first try i'd say I prefer any of those three. But who knows, my opinions often change as I progress through a bottle and sometimes one that i'm not that taken with on first taste becomes a favourite by the time I reach the bottom.
Plus like I said it does have something a bit different and variety is the spice of life ... so it is said.

Agree with all of that, I've had a few bottles that on first sip I've not been convinced but you get into it.Donkey Toon wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 3:45 pmI paid about £31 but with vat added it would be a bit more in the UK.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 3:25 pm“Interesting different” I don’t mind if it’s not too expensive.

Picked up an Auchentoshan American Oak single malt on offer in Tesco. Club card and vouchers took it down to about £14. This has to be value even though I’ve never tasted it …..yet

Drinkable.
I’ll take that as affirmation enough for the price. Single malt and American oak were my hooks.

I've had a revelation. Put dried banana in your whisky. It's readily available from supermarkets and places like Holland and Barretts. Its subtle in the drink but what a snack afterwards

Worth getting a bottle . I'm normally really into my peaty whiskies (Laphroaig is probably my favourite) so it was a surprise to get something that isn't peaty at all from Islay.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 10:01 amSome decent reviews, seems reasonably priced toobiggeordiedave wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 9:02 amGot a bottle of Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair recently and I'm going through it too quickly! I’m on a bit of a booze break mainly due to health issues. 51 days dry as of today but definitely going to enjoy a drink or two over Xmas!

I would undoubtedly say I drink way too much ( binge type style around weekends ) as opposed to every day , but that leads to probably twice recommended weekly limits etc etc.
Tried sober October , couldn’t do it !!
Don’t know what that says about me but during the early festive shopping today I found a tavern and had a pint , that made me feel better, but also loosened the wallet to a degree
