Had the mother in law visiting tonight. To cut a long story short she's a bucket when it comes to drink. Just necks it without appreciating what she's drinking. After dinner (and numerous glasses of wine) she asks for a whisky. Being a good host I oblige, but rather than waste my good stuff on her I grab the bottle of Jameson I have. I don't even like Jameson but bought a bottle specifically for when guests want a whisky but I know they won't appreciate the decent stuff so I sure as hell ain't wasting it on them!

The moral of the story is always have a cheap bottle to hand for such situations.

Love whiskey but I can't ever justify buying the "good stuff" I used to drink Buffalo Trace bourbon and enjoyed that until place started to push the price up.

Myself and a few friends class ourselves as wine aficionados and have built up a fairly decent collection on visits to vineyards throughout France and Italy and stocking up on classics.

A mate had a dinner party and has a special fridge for his white wine collection but only outs a bottle in it just before has prepared to open. He has a bottle of 1977 Pouilly Fume in there ready for the day after everyone buggers off. His sister in law spies the bottle, opens it and pours a glass and leaves it uncorked on the side overnight.

Whilst he's washing up in the morning he spots the bottle and demands to know from his guests who opened it and left it to spoil.

She said it was her and said she would replace it and she did; with a bottle of Blue Nun.

She's banned from his house.

Haha, so annoying when replacements are nowhere near the value of what they are replacing

<laugh>

My dad cofounded the wine society at his college at Oxford, so collects quite a few wines. I had a party a few months ago and one girl found her way into the collection and opened a bottle. Thankfully only the one. I spent the next couple days trying to find a replacement, but never could so in the end just covered up the evidence and hoped he forgot he had it. He still hasn't said anything <divax>

Probably blamed his wife

The 15 year old? I've not tried that one yet but the tasting notes appeal. Will give it a go one day <ok>

Perhaps we could open this thread up a bit to include fine wines, gins, etc. <scratch> I just have a feeling a thread for just whisky can only go so far.
Kindly deeds done for free!

I googled 'quaffer' - the urban dictionary has a very different definition!
