I've heard that the badge doesn't suit the modern digital age.

We'll be getting a QR code then and people will have to scan it to work out who you support.

This is the only alternative I'd accept.

That crest was horrendous, never liked that ever, looks like it was designed by by an autistic 8 year old child

I think an updated rendering that maintains the same components but better illustrates them would be fine by me. Especially the heraldry and font which haven't aged well nor look great when sewn or printed on things

Survey definitely not what I was expecting.

I agree it should be more simplistic.

Tbh I don't really care for seahorses or the lion holding the flag.

Have the castle a magpie and some form Newcastle or nufc be good imo

I also suggested some inclusion of the Tyne bridge which is more of a symbol of the city imo than seahorse or lions
I'll Hazard a guess

Let's face it, the current badge will just be sold back to us as a "throwback" on some club merch for 100 quid a pop in a few years time.

I guess I'm just a sucker for coat of arms, whether they be familial or for a city - so I dig how much the club crest incorporates the city's. But I still think it could be modernized - as it doesn't really pop on a shirt. When I wear jerseys around here people always have to ask me what they are (if not the home stripes), or lean in real close to see it better.

The current badge really pops on the away shirt, the white design really brings it to life to be fair.

I like the fact ours stands out if you show all the PL crests together, as long as we don't go for an identikit circle. Chelsea and Villa both moving to basically the same one is horrific, and while Chelsea's old one was awful it was definitely a step down for Villa.

I also do love a coat of arms, and the current one is the best, and a simplified version of the late 60s early 70s badge, obviously looks very ancient design now, but i would stick to the original idea of the coat of arms and just keep modernising it a bit.

Did some graphical analysis on the crest and there are numerous areas of un-web friendly colours throughout the current variant just by running it through a simple w3 standard check.

If the onus of change is for a digital version, the actual crest itself needs quite a bit of change in terms of colour structure, removals of shading and texture but most people wouldn't even notice it.

Seems until they present some options; we're all in the clarts.

I suppose that's the bit they've been really unclear on, maybe they're planning a really basic update (a la Bayern below) where we wouldn't even notice had they not bothered, but thought they'd gauge reaction to a bigger change. Just bad comms as usual.

Following on from my post about the badge on the away shirt and reading these last 2 posts, Its just dawned on me the club already uses a monochrome version of the badge on most of their online spaces. It's predominantly black with white accent, or predominantly white with black accent.

The away shirt badge doesn't really need to be white to be fair, they could easily have got away with the regular coloured badge, so maybe this year they trialed a new colour design on us with a shirt, and a badge change in general with the design of the 3rd shirt.

If it is for online marketing and having a more suitable online colour scheme then just stick with the badge design and switch to the monochrome colours. Maybe I'm bias but I think our coat of arms looks relatively simple and prestigious in design so doesn't really need a major change.

This is laughably bad. Thought it was someone on the wind up at first.
