I think it's harsh to compare Murphy with Almiron. Much as Miggy was a hard worker bar that short insane run he's a very limited player and not suited to top half post takeover Newcastle. Murphy on the other hand kicked on ridiculously post takeover and has been pretty consistently good since then. Not always to the extent of his scoring runs, but certainly good enough to be in the current squad even if Elanga comes in.

We are not going to pay £50-60m for Elanga to then have him play second fiddle to Jacob Murphy, Elanga has far more upside than Murphy, barring a settling in period Elanga would be first choice ahead of Murphy for every important fixture.

Aye obviously not, Elamga will be coming in as first choice, which even Murphy will be aware of. Doesn't mean he'll just doss about though. Good to have two players in each position, and Murphy has shown he has the character to push on if for whatever reason Elanga isn't firing on all cylinders.

Nico Williams, who Arsenal have been chasing since was a fetus, has signed a 10 year deal and is staying at Bilbao.

We've seen before that Elanga will be bedded in slowly over the first couple of months - happens with almost all Howe signings. Murphy will 100% be the starting RW for the first 1-2 months of the season but it'll definitely transition to Elanga. The better Murphy plays the longer that takes.

Let's also not forget that we're in 4 competitions this season, and the new CL format means we're likely to still be in Europe into 2026. There'll be plenty of game time to go around even without injuries.

I think 2 CL initial phase games guaranteed in Jan for everyone <ok>

Something like 6 pre-Xmas and 2 after New Year.

Oh definitely, but I meant we'll more than likely be in the knockouts given the pitiful number of teams that don't in the new format.

This. Plus as others have mentioned we're in 4 competitions so there will be plenty of rotation and game time for both. I feel like eventually Murphy after the settling in period for Elanga will transition into playing against the so called ''lesser'' teams in the Prem (bottom half/relegation/mid table sides) + certain cup games while Elanga will be the one playing in the ''big games'' so to speak or the important fixtures. Nice to finally have some competition on both wings so its a blessing. Need competition for Isak too? Unless Osula going to be 2nd choice behind him now? Is Wilson going to sign on a pay as you play deal or is he gone for good? <scratch>

I do much prefer the new format tbf - really mixed things up last season. The old group stage was dull af as most groups were sorted with a game or two to spare and it was very rare that the two favourites didn’t go through.

Last season was great seeing the likes of Man City v Real Madrid and Liverpool v PsG quite early on having to play to stay in the competition.

Bad injury last season - not without risk but definite potential.

Good.

Someone asked above for ex merthyr Tydfil player and manager john Charles. Scalvini plays for the merthyr Italian sister club atalanta.

That's a bit of a stretch, I know, but that's three mentions of Merthyrish matters in about 4 pages on this thread.

It's no wonder we have been losing out of targets to other clubs, if we go any slower we'll go back in time and sign Shearer for £15m. Maybe that's the master plan 🤔

Fair haha! I did hear we've had people down in Sheffield scouting out some talent. Doris from Wednesday currently showing a lot of potential
