I feel the need to seek out a Spurs fan and apologise after that. Utterly ridiculous and unfair.

My luck, the Spurs defender on my fantasy team who didn't even play probably picked up a red after the whistle.

Nah, it was a coach instead
Re: Matchday Thread: Spurs v Newcastle
Does anyone count Ritchie as an out and fullback? He's proved himself at wing back and that's why Bruce has had to put Hayden in as a 3rd CB given Lewis' injury. We could maybe bring in an extra CB to replace Lejeune (though given how often he's been fit over two seasons it's not a big change) but we are missing Clark, Schar and Dummett which would make a dent on any squad. No doubt whatsoever that we need to improve on Shelvey though as I've said ad infinitum for three seasons.Remember Colo wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 2:21 pmLate to the thread, but that was my thinking. He's not a LB, and I've never understood people when talking about the squad counting him as one. And Hayden's not CB either. I keep hearing we have depth in these positions and yet at least two players are out of position and it's only matchweek 3. None of this has even touched on the fact it's another week that highlights our CM isn't good enough - as it hasn't been for like 6 years (I'll keep beating that dead horse).Donkey Toon wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 1:26 pmWtf was Ritchie doing trying to let the ball run past him. Defending 101 you defend the way you are facing. f***ing abysmal.
I was posting this prior to the penalty incident (honest) , but for all the doom and gloom and missing players we had it at 1-0 all game, which is exactly what we played for against the big teams with Rafa even without a massive injury issue among our ball playing defenders and ASM missing. I would never say "I'll take a 1-0" because it's still a loss (THINK OF THE GOAL DIFFERENCE) but it keeps you in the game and we've reaped the rewards whilst playing poorly against a good side.

Undeserved but it was a penalty. I love the new rule. It's the outstretched arm in the box. Penalty. It's been given for us and it'll be given against us but it will be 100% correct.

Disagree with the commentary (panel with Shearer and co.) that say these rules are changing the game and forcing them to talk about things they never had to talk about. Pundits have had to talk about decisions like that to death for years since slow-motion replay came in, the decisions referees make (and how they're making them) is what's changed. Though I completely agree it was a horrible call. The issue isn't referee replay though, it's how they're interpreting and enforcing the rules.

Re: Matchday Thread: Spurs v Newcastle
Based on the rules, it was a stone wall penalty.
Spurs fans will complain but with the new rules, every single team will get a given several of those penalty calls the season and every single team will concede penalties like that. The rule is stupid but it’s been applied consistently across the board.

3 shots on target this season and 3 goals sums us up. I'll take it though...

Awful first half, but we were much better second imo, thought Joelinton had a good game and was probably one of our best players, looked to have got some confidence from the cup game. In he end I think we just about deserved to grab a point just for the second half.

Re: Matchday Thread: Spurs v Newcastle
Teams should start a new practice drill. Put mannequins on the pitch in the goal area and have players practice kicking the ball at their arms. Probably a higher success chance than from a direct freekick. f***ing ludicrous what this game is becoming.
