Match day thread - Burnleh (H)

Post by Toondes » Sat Oct 03, 2020 7:31 am

The Magpies go looking for their first home league win in six attempts on Saturday, when Sean Dyche's Clarets travel to SJP for an 8pm KO live on Sky.

Team: Martin Dubravka, Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie are all definitely sidelined, with doubts over Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth.

Speaking on Friday, Steve Bruce hoped that Allan Saint-Maximin would feature; sightings of him having a kickabout with some bairns in Wallsend on Thursday night suggest he's OK to play.....

Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett and Matty Longstaff remain unavailable, with claims that they could be in contention for the visit of Manchester United in a fortnight.

Coral rate a home victory at 7/5, with the draw and the away win both priced at 21/10.

Selected odds:
match to finish 0-0 7/1
Newcastle to win to nil 11/4
Any scoring draw 10/3
Isaac Hayden to win 4+ tackles 10/3
Newcastle to win 1-0, Wilson scores 14/1

BFC: Matt Lowton misses out and there are fitness doubts over Robbie Brady and Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

James Tarkowski and Ashley Barnes both made comebacks from injury in Burnley's 0-3 home defeat to Manchester City in the League Cup on Wednesday.

The Clarets are pointless in the PL after two games, losing 2-4 at Leicester City and then 0-1 at home to Southampton.

Referee: David Coote - first Toon appointment of the season for the whistler from Nottinghamshire.

Last season saw him appear four times: the 2-1 home win over Southampton, 1-1 FA Cup draw at Rochdale and 3-0 post-lockdown home success against Sheffield United.

How many shots on target? Can we continue our 100% conversion rate? <awe>

This is going to be a horrendous match <laugh>

I reckon neutral viewers will be in single figures.

My local side are on BBC in the cup today so looking forward to watching that <awe> Was going to go but rules have changed again haha. Hopefully tonight's game won't be a complete bore fest. Although I imagine the only way we will keep our 100% conversion rate is if we don't have a shot on target <laugh>

I'll go win. Because if we can't get something from a home match against Burnley...well it'd be par for the course.

Burnley haven't won yet. They'll win. Brighton have only one win so far, against us. We're so s***.

I hope it's a midfield 3, ASM as an orthodox winger just doesn't work.

I refuse to believe a manager in any of Englands top 5 or 6 leagues would look at how 4 4 2 has gone for us recently and wouldn't change it to 3 in the middle.

So it will be Hendrick on the wing and Shelvey in the middle with Hayden <laugh>

That's probably our strongest side atm. Glad Carroll has been dropped. Saying that, would have preferred Almirpn to start instead of Shelvey.

Just in general? Or you would have swapped them in the starting line up for someone else we have?
